Attention college students!
1 year Free Amazon Prime membership

Did a search and couldn't find this:

-Valid .edu e-mail address
-Specify college, year and major
Quote :
To sign up for and use Amazon Student, you must (1) have an account, (2) be a college student actively enrolled in at least one course at a college geographically located in one of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia, (3) be able to provide proof of enrollment upon request and (4) have a valid e-mail address that contains the domain suffix .edu.
Go here to Sign Up []

Everything else is self-explanatory. Go to prime and manage your account. Should be activated and have an ending date 1 year from sign-up date. You are even able to add family members to the account like a regular prime subscription.

Updates to answer questions

Q: Will this automatically renew?
A: NO!
Quote :
The automatic renewal provisions in the Amazon Prime Terms & Conditions (which would require you to pay for Amazon Prime) do not apply to this membership, even if we decide to extend the free Amazon Prime offer beyond one year.
Q: Can I get this if I'm not a student (even if I have a .edu e-mail address)?
A: You might be able to. And you might not.
If you do not qualify and they catch you, Amazon will make you reimburse them for their costs
Quote :
If you do not provide documentation indicating that you meet the eligibility requirements above, you may be required to reimburse us for benefits you received as a result of your Amazon Student membership.
*I am not the arbiter of morality, but please don't abuse this by signing up if you do not meet Amazon's requirements*

Q: What happens if I already have a prime account?
A: I'm not sure, however people are reporting that if they currently have a prime account and they sign-up for the Amazon Student account, the following happens:
1. Their current prime account gets cancelled and they get a pro-rated refund
2. They get signed up for the free 1 year amazon student prime

Q: My .edu address isn't my address -- do I have to create a new account?
A: No
Quote :
If your .edu e-mail address isn't listed on your account, that's OK. The only e-mail we'll send to your .edu e-mail address is the verification e-mail. After that, other Amazon Student e-mails will be sent to the e-mail address listed on your account.
Q: Ohh my gosh, this is amazing, how can I thank you!?!?!
A: Students are notoriously poor. Many have to work minimum-wage jobs while taking classes to pay for rent, tuition and food. Let a student know about this deal and help them save money. Also, donating old books you have lying around the house to schools and libraries (especially those dealing with budget cuts) could potentially enrich a child's life and help them get interested in many different subjects and put them on the path to higher education.

"Join Amazon Student and get FREE Two-Day Shipping for one year with a free Amazon Prime membership ($79 value), as well as e-mail alerts for exclusive promotions. There is no cost to join--simply sign up by providing your school and major. If youre not a student, you may still be eligible for a free trial of Amazon Prime."

EDIT: This is really crazy!! Almost 2750 thumbs ups and counting! -- Over 3900 reps (I started with only 17!) Thanks everyone for all the support!

Here's the back story of how this deal came about: My sister-in-law really wanted a prime account since their's had just ended a short time go. She kept asking if I wanted to split one with her and my other siblings, but the rest of us weren't so keen on the idea because we didn't have that much of a need for it.

Fast forward to yesterday afternoon, she calls me and tells me about this Amazon Student thing and asks if I've ever heard of it. I told her no and did a search on slickdeals and google and couldn't find a thing on it. I went to the website she gave me and saw that you get Prime free for a year if you're a student, etc. etc. I verified it worked and that you could add family members to the account.

As soon as that happened, I posted it here since I've been a member for a while, but never posted a deal before (everyone is really quick on the uptake for this kind of stuff so by the time I find out about something, it's probably been on here for days already). I wanted to give back to everyone and this was the perfect opportunity.

The rest as they say, is history (1 day old history!)

Hmm I think I turned off one-click ordering a month or two ago. Could that have caused my membership end date to fall back to Feb 28?

Darn. Was this discussed already in the thread? Or is this the first time we're noticing?
haha. I never even noticed it until you guys brought it up. It can't be a coincidence that our membership's all end on the same date. Amazon must have noticed.

What the heck? I signed up in February 2011 like everyone else then successfully prolonged my student membership in July or so by canceling and enrolling again. This was verified in my Prime Membership settings with an end date of July 2012 or so.

Now I check and it says my membership ends February 28, 2012. Did Amazon go in and cancel all those membership extensions that people did?

Anybody else have this happen? Just want to make sure.
For the record, mine still has an end date of May 25, 2012. That's about the time (May 25, 2011) that I called and renewed my student membership for free. So I'm not sure if everyone has been changing to the Feb 28, 2012 end date.

My prime membership also says July 12 2011 - Feb 28 2012. And I see no option to cancel auto-renewal. What's going on?

mine's same too... Membership dates: July 20, 2010 - February 28, 2012

Same here. If I sign up for $39 for Amazon Student, can I add 4 family members to the account or is that only with the full $79 Prime?

There is no auto renewable for student prime memberships, as stated in their Amazon Student terms & conditions.

When your membership expires, it expires. No renewable.

Oh, wait - do I have that backwards? Maybe you guys are right. The original sign up could have been in summer 2010, since the extension was in February 2011.

Gosh, sorry for the scare. I'll edit my earlier post.
