Folks, I am in the market for a new plasma. Wondering which one to go for, the TCP50X1 or the Samsung 50 inch plasma with FREE Home theater system. Both are tempting deals....however unable to make up my mind Smilie

Panasonic 50 inch plasma(TCP50X1): http://accessories.us.dell.com/sn...u=A2612466

Samsung 50 inch plasma(PN50BHTZ320):http://accessories.us.dell.com/sn...u=A3256426

Your insight will be highly appreciated as I am a little confused on which one to go for.

Thanks!!

a sub of pilot just delivered my TV...said to give it 4-6 hours to warm up from being outside over night.
popped the top and the foam on the corners and across the top was busted up some.
i'll have help in several hours to un-box/inspect/set-up.
i'll post back.
seems like Dell let these orders get out of control for a few weeks but in the end they came through..for that i would like to thank Dell for stepping up to the plate and handling this matter like a respectable company should.

Ok, I'm kind of an AV noob and was wondering what all I would need to hook everything up correctly. I have a Dish Network tv box, the Ht system, a laptop with hdmi out, and and old xbox 360 without hdmi(using component).
I'm ordering:

3FT Optical Toslink Cable
X4 (one each for Xbox360, Tv, laptop, 3 way splitter to HT)

http://www.monoprice.com/products...1&format=1

3X1 Optical Audio Toslink Bi-Directional Manual Switch
X1

http://www.monoprice.com/products...1&format=4

High Speed HDMI 1.3a Category 2 Certified Cable 28AWG - 6ft w/Ferrite Cores (Gold Plated

Connectors) - BLACK
X2 (Ht to Tv, laptop to TV)

http://www.monoprice.com/products...1&format=2

This seems to be it. I'd like to get it all in one order, so if anyone can think of anything else... Thanks for the help. Just got this Tuesday and played some games, no IR after 20mins. I'm still running the break-in dvd cause I'm paranoid. I have one dead pixel on the lower left, but I think I can handle it.

Much Thanks

Got mine yesterday at around 2 PM, opened the box and it looked fine. My wife tipped the delivery guy. After he left, I then proceeded to do what I shouldn't have done...unboxed it and plugged it in. It looked pretty good, but I didn't really have anything to try with it other than a dvd with the ht. Unfortunately, the clock was ticking and I had to get back to work (which is why I shouldn't have unboxed it!). Not only did I have to go back to work, I had to work late, which made the "tease" even worse. I managed to stop by the local Comcast office and pick up an HD box...but they didn't include a coax cable or the freakin power cable (all of which I didn't notice in my haste to get back to work and my excitement to see some HD channels).

I tried the ipod dock with my iphone, but all I got was sound. The instructions were pretty basic...plug it in, click "Output to TV" when it appears on the screen...except I never saw that prompt. Any ideas?
Do you have HDMI between the TV and HT?

So Pilot called me on Tuesday to schedule delivery and the guy on the phone basically said tomorrow 9am-3p. I told him I couldn't do it because I had to work could he deliver in the afternoon? He said no it could only be 9am-3pm. So I said ok give me Friday because I'm off the morning. Then later that day I got an invite to go do something early Friday morning.... argh.

I then noticed that the local Pilot Warehouse was literally 2 streets down from where I work. I take my truck to work and pass by the warehouse to see if I could just pick it up two days early. The people at the office were nice but since I recently moved and hadn't updated my license they said they couldn't give it to me... sort of understandable. But then one of the head guys said he could reschedule delivery for today from 5pm-7pm, perfect.

This morning at 6:50am (luckily I was already at work) the driver has the balls to call me and plead if I could take the delivery between 9a-3p because its very difficult for him to make the delivery between 5p-7p.... WTF... I told him to go speak with his supervisor and that I needed it delivered in the evening no matter what.

I can't wait till this is over... my tv better be in good condition...

Looks good. You have Toslink and HDMI out from your laptop? That's cool.

How will the Xbox connect for video?

Not sure about the Toslink on the laptop. If anything I'll have an extra cable for my future PS3. The Xbox360 is using component right now. I read a few pages back that I need to break the casing on the cord to make it work right with Toslink, but I don't want to ruin my cord by not knowing what i'm doing. Anyone have pics of that??

I bet there's something on this page that would do what you need for cheap:

I finally received the TV and HTS yesterday. The Pilot guy was nice and it was late at night, so I tipped him $5. He helped me to unbox the TV and I plugged the TV in and it looked fine without any obvious cracks or defects. But I need to inspect it more carefully in next few days. It is comforting to see some people can exchange their TVs without too much hassles. One question: What recent blu-ray DVDs would you guys suggest to test out the TV's PQ and the HTS?

I believe the HT systems are getting delivered via UPS?

I got my tv yesterday but when the Dell CSR called to tell me it had shipped she said the HT system was still "In Production".

my HT came through UPS.
Dell should be able to supply you with a tracking number if you call them.

Yep, I had an HDMI cable going between the two. I was marveling over Planet Earth being upscaled when I read that the HT would play video from the ipod/iphone on the TV. But when I tried it, all I got was the sound from the video coming through the HT speakers, a still image displayed on the iphone, and "No Signal" displayed on the TV.

so........ anyone go the unethical route and try returning the HT to best buy or walmart for store credit? any successes or failures?

Ok update on a damaged TV. I hope if you have had a damaged tv that you would have contacted Brad @dell by now but if you haven't that is the person that will get it done for you. I just got off the phone with a person from dell and they are shipping out my replacement TV today. I was told that they COULDN'T replace it but Brad fix that and got me in touch with someone that could. This has been one hell of an experience! This is my first deal that I have dealt with on here and have been patient and it worked out for me. What a deal this was but I will be honest if Dell didn't come good for this I wouldn't have ever purchased a single thing from them in the future. Brad has been a huge help. I sure hope that the CSR's that have made this so unbelievably tough are dealt with.

PS. Brad's email is brad@dell.com

Hope this helps! Thanks!Smilie

Are you kidding me? Regardless of whether or not I got my tv or not, I've already had it with Dell. I will never buy anything from them ever again. Mad

The way they handled this situation was unacceptable.
