Folks, I am in the market for a new plasma. Wondering which one to go for, the TCP50X1 or the Samsung 50 inch plasma with FREE Home theater system. Both are tempting deals....however unable to make up my mind Smilie

Panasonic 50 inch plasma(TCP50X1): http://accessories.us.dell.com/sn...u=A2612466

Samsung 50 inch plasma(PN50BHTZ320):http://accessories.us.dell.com/sn...u=A3256426

Your insight will be highly appreciated as I am a little confused on which one to go for.

Thanks!!

Samsungs dead pixel policy:

I'm going to try this out see where it takes me. I'll keep you updated.

Hopefully 3-5 dead pixels all in one spot warrants service, I believe it should, but we'll see.

I'm at work now so I can't fully finish the service request form, need serial number on tv.
Thanks. Can you take a close-up photo of the defective area? Can you notice the dead pixels from about 8 feet away?

You can notice from 8 feet away only if screen is on a solid color, while using dvd break in disc is when I orginally spotted the dead pixels. Otherwise from 8 feet away during normal viewing you cannot see the spot.

I would say its about an inch or two from the bottom right of the screen and about an inch or two in from the side.

I'm at work again now, but I will post a picture of the area later. I believe I should be able to capture the spot on camera.

Anyone have any suggestions for a intergrated mount tv stand? I'm looking for something that will sit up a little higher and will have shelves for ps3, etc.
We got this one [walmart.com] and are extemely happy with it. However something wider would be better for setting the HT speakers on. We have the fronts set on the top shelf and they definitely should be spread out better. But then again, we have the rear speakers simply sitting on end tables on either side of the couch, not ideal either. I'm too lazy to mount them to the walls though, plus I'm not sure how good that would look.

I bet there's something on this page that would do what you need for cheap:

http://www.monoprice.com/products...p_id=10830
I may need one of these:

http://www.monoprice.com/products...1&format=2

I still think I might just crack the one I have now, if I can do it without ruining it. It looks like the toslink port on the official Xbox360 component cord has a little door that blocks the use of it. WTF is up with that??

Not certain about this, as I do not have an XBOX, but are you talking about the port on the actual XBOX?

I believe all optical ports have a little door but this door opens.

No he's talking about the plug on the cable, apparently it has the optical plug built into it but there's a door preventing you from using the optical port and whatever's next to it...hdmi?

I broke the gray housing to plug both the hd xbox cable (with the toslink on it) and the hdmi cable at the same time so I could have the hdmi goto the tv and the toslink goto the HTIB... I did get 5.1 sound of of this, but it didn't work for everything (playing songs through my xbox didn't give me 5.1 sound). I haven't played with it enough to get it how I like it. I've had the tv for 3 days now and I've been whispering sweet nothings to it as I rock it to sleep. Awesome deal. I can post pictures if you would like them.

Side note: I believe the door prevents dust from building up on the cable which would scatter the fiber optics and may distort your signal. I'm not sure if the toslink is a hollow tube or not. If it is a hollow tube, that would be my guess since you could effectively destory the cable/jack by getting gunk in there.

This turned out to be my second best slick deal this year.

TV and Home Theater bundle, incl tax, free ship = $800
15% Dell Coupon from monthly Dell catalog = credit $115
Home Theater sold on CL = credit $160
Samsung 50" Plasma 1080p = $525.00

That's hot. nod

TV looks awesome, and I couldn't be happier.

(Incidentally, my # 1 slickdeal this year was getting TWO of the clearance 32" 1080p Vizios at Target for 250 each (with tax) and selling one for $360, and keeping one for a net cost of $140. I now have a 32" TV as my monitor. Aww Yeah. Rock)

For the people that received their surround sound and tv in 2 seperate deliveries: about how many days after the first package arrived, be it the tv or surround, did the second package arrive?

So far I've only received my TV and really don't want to wait on hold with Dhell for 45 mins just to get the tracking number for the surround sound and I am trying to see how long I should wait until that phone call becomes necessary.

So far its been 2 days seperating the two deliveries.

It may have not even shipped yet. When I spoke with the CSR on monday she said my tv had shipped but my HT system wasn't scheduled for delivery until like the 21st I believe...or maybe it was going to ship on the 21st...in any case, just because you received your tv, does not mean your HT is on the way Stick Out Tongue

I haven't had time to hide the wires as of yet, but I will be cutting a small hole behind the tv and run the wires down to the ground out another small hole that will be hidden behind a piece of furniture that holds my cable box, dvd, and all other components.
Go to lowes....buy the HDMI wall plates for 3 bucks...buy a blue box for 1 dollar....cut a hole...install the plates...run the wires BEHIND THE wall, and boom, you house is now wired for wall mounted TV and HDMI...without a "hole in the wall" jeez...it takes all of 20 more minutes to make it professional guys

I agree it is not difficult to do this, but to me it really doesn't matter as neither the hole behind the tv nor the hole where the wires will come out of the wall will ever be seen.

If the TV is ever moved I would not want an HDMI wall plate in the middle of my wall, so that would need to be taken out and covered anyway. The wall plate on the bottom could stay, as I would probably put it next to an outlet, but to me a simple hole will work just fine.

There is also the Optical Cable I am using to connect to the HTIB, not sure if they make a wall mount for this?

And I'd rather go to Home Depot anyway.

Home Depot by me sucks...hit or miss with either of them though depends on where you live.

they do make optical ports.... they do not have them at HD or Lowes though... need to order them online. It would drive me nuts knowing there was a hole there.... plus, if you ever trying to sell the house... the house can look like shit...you show most guys a pre wired wall set for a TV with HDMI, TOSLINK, etc... he will tell the wife he likes the house nod
