Folks, I am in the market for a new plasma. Wondering which one to go for, the TCP50X1 or the Samsung 50 inch plasma with FREE Home theater system. Both are tempting deals....however unable to make up my mind Smilie

Panasonic 50 inch plasma(TCP50X1): http://accessories.us.dell.com/sn...u=A2612466

Samsung 50 inch plasma(PN50BHTZ320):http://accessories.us.dell.com/sn...u=A3256426

Your insight will be highly appreciated as I am a little confused on which one to go for.

Thanks!!

Oh I did...I pulled out all the stops. At first they told me it was out of stock. Then I told them I saw the exact same model on the website and it says "new"...surely they can't be out of stock. Then they said they can't be certain when the order would be fulfilled. I said, "I'll wait." Then they said they couldn't do it anyway, sorry. After speaking to three different people, I have a hunch the true reason is because it's priced higher now. I likened it unto purchasing a damaged piece of clothing, taking it back, and the store not providing a replacement because it's now priced higher. "Customer Care" said it's not like clothing--electronics come and go faster. Well, wouldn't that mean the television should be worth LESS? I also pointed out a better Samsung model and they said they couldn't use it as a replacement because it was a higher price. Whatever, I'm really not happy right now but I've done what I can. I hope you guys have a better experience, I really do.
I hope this isn't bad advice, but maybe just keep calling until you get someone who will replace it? It seems like with the variety of quality of service we have been seeing with CSR's, you may eventually get someone who can help?

That really sucks man. I just opened the box and mine looks okay...on my way to Walmart to get a TV stand.

I'll try to post about the speaker wires when I open the HTS, but from the 3 reviews I read on Newegg, it comes with very long proprietary speaker wires. I'm sure they can be lengthened with butt connectors and standard speaker wire though.

For those confused about when your order will arrive, log into the Dell website and you should be able to get the tracking numbers after clicking on the order number. At least that was my experience. My due date is still the 8th even though I got it today.

tranquilo... i got an email from dell today saying my tv is shipped and the estimated delivery will be 12/8... the tv is now in my apartment. Wait for the tracking info to update on Friday most likely if not by the end of this day.

PQ - I cannot say... I am leaving contrast down and everything else until I get at least 150hrs in. I will watch a blu ray tonight tho. From flipping the SD channels with low contrast, it didn't seem all that great. HD channels seemed better, probably a 7-8/10... but all this is without calibration etc... if someone knows how to properly calibrate and what not, let me know the steps and when it should be done. thanks!
Ok, that is more encouraging. Thanks for the info! Mas tranquilo!

Ordered on 11/15, still "in production". Dell sucks so bad. I will NEVER order from them again... except for that Eye-Fi card I just ordered.

Fedex delivered the TV and HT system today. I was not home but my wife was and from what she told me, the delivery guy (there was only one) dragged the box to our front door. Not surprisingly but to my horror, the plasma panel was shattered (the outside screen was intact). I believe someone rightly mentioned earlier that the packaging (box, styrofoam, and lots of empty space) is not designed to take much abuse. I emailed Dell (could not get through via phone) and I am awaiting a response.

The box is only 115 pounds but it is large and bulky; not a one person job carrying this. What was the Fedex guy thinking? What a waste!

For anyone who has a Sears card (or wishes to sign up for one) the Panasonic TC-P50S1 is on sale at $899 right now at Best Buy. Price Match it according to this thread for a total price of sub $800

http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1696438

Also, Bing Cashback is at 13% right now, so if you can double dip you'd be close to $700 out the door! That's worth ditching this in my opinion! Plus, you don't have to worry about Fedex smashing everything and you can pick it up and return it locally if you have problems!

Well, what do you think of picture quality? I can't believe that all the members that received their B530's not one comment on PQ so far.
I am waiting for Direct TV to send me another HD receiver before I start hooking it up. I am also waiting for the surround sound, HDMI cables, optical cable, wall mount, etc(from monoprice), I am confident this TV will have a great picture.

Still no update for me. I just got a Dell Customer Service Survey email, and I'm going to hold on to it until after this is over. I had a situation at work today that really brought this into perspective. Think about the best way this situation could of been handled...

Now think about the worst way it could of been handled...

Other than delaying our orders longer, than canceling them, which still might happen for a lot of us, is there a worse way this could of been handled? Could they have shipped me an empty box? Would that of been worse?

How hard would have it been to send out an email within the first 24 hours with:
Hey Mr. Smith
We want to apologize for the inconvenience. We know that we advertised your order being shipped within 24 hours, but due to unforeseen circumstances, we unfortunately won't be able to ship your order out within that time frame. We are hoping to be able to ship your order soon, but we are looking at an Estimated Arrival Date of 12/08/2010 at the moment. We value your business and apologize. Thank you.

How many phone calls, emails and chats would that have saved Dell? How much stress would that have saved customers? It's not the fact that the order has been delayed, it's the lack of communication, lack of answers, and lack of any type of concern regarding retaining customers or valuing our time or business.

ordered on 11/16 around 530pm est time via phone and got tv and HTS today (11/25) via FEDEX. I got the "your tv has shipped" email at 3 pm today (4 hrs after the TV arrived). dont have HD cable yet so cant ccomment on PQ yet.

GOOD LUCK!

yeah tried to edit the spreadsheet but it looks strange -
ordered on 11/16 around 5pm via phone. got the dell PA. got order conf email. never got any other correspondence until they sent me the "YOUR ORDER HAS SHIPPED EMAIL" around 3pm yest. Funny bc the TV arrived without warning 4 hrs prior to this email via FED EX.

quality - nice even though im using non HD cable until my HD cable box arrives.
