Folks, I am in the market for a new plasma. Wondering which one to go for, the TCP50X1 or the Samsung 50 inch plasma with FREE Home theater system. Both are tempting deals....however unable to make up my mind Smilie

Panasonic 50 inch plasma(TCP50X1): http://accessories.us.dell.com/sn...u=A2612466

Samsung 50 inch plasma(PN50BHTZ320):http://accessories.us.dell.com/sn...u=A3256426

Your insight will be highly appreciated as I am a little confused on which one to go for.

Thanks!!

So, can someone type up a very easy to follow list with what to do to burn this set in? I know I know, read the wiki. I have read the wiki, and some other websites. Some sites say you don't have to worry about the set burning in at all, that's Samsung's official stance on it. But what is everyone doing?

Just changing the contrast and brightness right off the bat and running that calibration dvd and that's it? Watching full screen only during the first 100 hours? I'm just trying to find out an easy list to follow for this particular set. Please don't be rude and say that I'm a moron, or that I should read through the over 2000 posts in this thread for more info. If you think I'm overlooking something simple, just keep it to yourself, if you can help, please reply.

There's no set way to do it. You already mentioned all the things you should be doing. Do you have to do them? No. Will it instantly cause burn-in on your tv? Probably not. But it's a good idea to do them all just as precautions.

well i hooked up my tv and there is a large horizontal black bar across the top. contacted samsung ans setup a service appt.
called dell, told them the issue. since it was not damaged in shipping and is a hardware issue, they are sending a replacement. return dept confirmed in stock, will ship monday.
so, if you don't have it yet, just wait. however dell does the bookkeeping for the bundle is the issue, but the physical products are there.

For one, definitely lower the contrast to start out. Mine was set to a default of 95, and the picture was BEAUTIFUL without any calibration, but after watching a few hours of the boise state game on ESPN last night, I had the IR of the ESPN logo in the bottom of the screen until I did the scrolly image burn in thingy for a few mins.

It probably would have disapeared itself, but I want gonna take any chances. I lowered the contrast to 50 now and will take the time to run a burn in disc later this week.

haven't done the change... and the way you make it seem is that by doing the change you cannot see the version... so do you mean anyone who has not done the change?
No when I went in to make the change I didn't exactly know how to do it or what I was doing. So when I went in I accidently changed the type (there are like 20 options for the type) instead of changing the model. If I would have just changed the model it would have been fine and yes after you make the change you can see the version, but since I didn't write it down before I changed it mine is set to one and I'm not sure if it's the right one. Let me know maybe a PM would be better to go over it. Takes like 30 secs to do this for me, and you don't even have to change anything to tell me what your type says. Here's all you have to do:

Make sure the TV is off, type in Mute-1-8-2-Power, then hit enter on Options and then see what it says for TYPE. If you don't want to make any changes then just hit the power button and it will leave the service menu. Any help will be repped!

Ok here's what to do.
First go and get the DVD burn-in from the avsforum.com.
Then unpackage your TV and hook it up to a DVD player
Then set your contrast up to 100 and your brightness up to 100
Then turn on the burn-in DVD and let it run for 75 hours
Calibrate the TV to best settings (this is your opinion and depends on what you like)
Watch your beautiful new TV in all it's glory.

This is what I've done and I have about 10 more hours before I can take my TV off an hook it up to the DTV and PS3. After this burn-in you should be good to go with no IR issues unless you do a marathon video game spree (which I sometimes do). This will be my fourth plasma and I've never had a problem with IR staying on my TV for longer than 30 secs right after playing COD. I've burned them all in the same way with this DVD. I've got 4 kids who leave Hannah Montanta and SpongeBob on pause for hours on end so you should be fine. Obviously don't abuse it but if you do it correctly you won't have any problems.

It looks like almost everyone who has received their order ordered after me. WTF is dell thinking? Do they want to piss people off?

Please update the spreadsheet if you get your order.

This is interesting they are delaying orders so people will cancel?

yes you will have to worry about burn-in on any input. As long as you have a good screen save though you should be fine. Or just turn off the monitor when you go to leave.

For people keeping the HTS where did you get your speaker mounts from?
