Folks, I am in the market for a new plasma. Wondering which one to go for, the TCP50X1 or the Samsung 50 inch plasma with FREE Home theater system. Both are tempting deals....however unable to make up my mind Smilie

Panasonic 50 inch plasma(TCP50X1): http://accessories.us.dell.com/sn...u=A2612466

Samsung 50 inch plasma(PN50BHTZ320):http://accessories.us.dell.com/sn...u=A3256426

Your insight will be highly appreciated as I am a little confused on which one to go for.

Thanks!!

Home Depot by me sucks...hit or miss with either of them though depends on where you live.

they do make optical ports.... they do not have them at HD or Lowes though... need to order them online. It would drive me nuts knowing there was a hole there.... plus, if you ever trying to sell the house... the house can look like shit...you show most guys a pre wired wall set for a TV with HDMI, TOSLINK, etc... he will tell the wife he likes the house nod
Or he will want to put the tv somewhere else and think "jeez how am I supposed to cover up those ugly plates"

laugh out loud

The longer you wait...the better upgrade you get...i got a 420 series...maybe you will get even better Smilie
Mine still shows a 320, but I know that some on here have said their descriptions have not changed and they eventually received the 420, hoping this holds true for myself.

But I would certainly not be opposed to receiving something even better!

I really want my status to change on Dells website so I do not have to spend 30+ minutes on the phone to get my tracking info on the HTIB.

We got this one [walmart.com] and are extemely happy with it. However something wider would be better for setting the HT speakers on. We have the fronts set on the top shelf and they definitely should be spread out better. But then again, we have the rear speakers simply sitting on end tables on either side of the couch, not ideal either. I'm too lazy to mount them to the walls though, plus I'm not sure how good that would look.
Thanks for the help. I appreciate it. I ended up going with this..

except somehow I paid $378 for it, and a couple hours later its selling for $258. I feel like i just got kicked in the crown jewels. Anyone know if this is something I could email amazon about? I'm hoping it will fit the speakers as well. Do you mind showing me a pic of how you have the tv/speakers set up?

Something's wrong. Try the calibration settings here: http://reviews.plasmatvbuyingguid...ation.html

It's by far the best I've tried. I fell in love all over again with this TV last night when I tried these.
I put those settings in last night for watching my Comcast DVR and while color looks decent its very dark and the blacks are crushed. So far its not much of an issue since its good to run it a bit dark during the first 100hrs. But I'm going to run it through a Digital Video Essentials DVD [hdtvsupply.com] which luckily is available on BluRay from Netflix.

I don't know if its just my set or what but the settings on that site are just too dark compared to my 6yr old plasma calibrated using the THX calibration on a Pixar DVD back when...

TV was delivered today, everything looked in good shape. Connected everything and so far TV works great. Now, just what to decide regarding the HT-z520, sell it and keep my old Yamaha HTR-5730 or keep it?

Yep, got mine on Tuesday, just about finished with the 100 hours. Home theater came in same day as TV but shipped seperately, only got the 320, its up on craigslist now. Gonna calibrate it here in a little bit and hang it up on the wall. This thing blows my LG 42" LCD completely away.

So does mine, but I got a 420 delivered a week ago. they never changed it on my status page, but they delivered me a 420. So, stick it out...I think you will end up getting an upgrade on the HT...hell it was the cause of the delay in the first place so....

you should have calibrated before you ran the disc for 100 hours....

Actually AVs forum says not to. They say while it will be a faster method to do it but if something goes wrong you could have burn in... and Murphy's Law usually strikes

I am using an air antenna (and am perfectly content with the amount of channels I receive btw). So I hooked up the HT-Z520 and played a dvd and it sounded good. Radio also sounded good in the 5.1 emulation mode. However, my main purpose of having the home theater setup is so i can have better sound when watching ordinary tv. I don't watch dvd's that often. The only feasible audio output i see on the tv is the optical out (there's no rca in on the dvd player). The tv doesn't have hdmi out. So does that mean I have to buy an optical cable going from the tv to the dvd player's optical-in port? If so, has anybody tried this and how was the sound quality?

Also, I am very pleased with the image quality of this tv, except for one minor thing. I'm currently burning in the tv mostly with the burn in disc on 30% contrast/brightness settings. As soon as I turned the tv on for the 1st time, there was a very subtle and hazy, ~1 inch thick vertical band ~1 inch from the left of the screen. It's more prominent with darker video. It's not IR because I've seen some IR of logos on the tv that fade in less than 30s. It resembles no bar seen in programming and it isn't well demarcated. Tried the scrolling burn in corrector and didn't work. No noticeable physical damage to the tv on arrival. Any ideas?

I am trying to calibrate the tv, but some of the settings are gray out. Does anyone has the same problem?

Was delivered today after having a call last night from towne air saying the driver was experiencing truck issues. I had no problem waiting another day and they said they could get it to me before noon.

They brought it in and we unboxed it before signing. I was going to sign for it anyway, but wanted them to note any issues before signing if there were any.

TV was in pristine condition so it was signed for. We set it up just a couple hours ago and all seems fine.

Now just waiting for the HT.

Thanks again for everyone's input and Brad@Dell for keeping an eye on my order.
