Folks, I am in the market for a new plasma. Wondering which one to go for, the TCP50X1 or the Samsung 50 inch plasma with FREE Home theater system. Both are tempting deals....however unable to make up my mind Smilie

Panasonic 50 inch plasma(TCP50X1): http://accessories.us.dell.com/sn...u=A2612466

Samsung 50 inch plasma(PN50BHTZ320):http://accessories.us.dell.com/sn...u=A3256426

Your insight will be highly appreciated as I am a little confused on which one to go for.

Thanks!!

I have noticed some IR, but I run the built in "burn in protector" and will take it all out within 5min or so. No buzzing.
I have noticed with the settings posted in the wiki that the whites are not very white. I tweaked a bit more to my liking and turned down the contrast. Every now and then I will turn the contrast back up while the wie and I are watching.

Everyone else must be getting really lucky because I get IR pretty bad, or at least that's what I've seen so far.

For example, even the built in TV menus will leave behind IR after just a few minutes. It's faint but noticeable if you are close enough. I don't dare put anything else on without burning it in a bit further...
I have been having the same issue. I wonder if people aren't looking closely enough. You only notice it if you are looking at a black or white or gray solid screen around 2-4 ft away. You wont notice it if you're watching actual tv/video. Basically, it's not noticeable if you're watching tv. TV looks fantastic under normal conditions btw. I've also been super conservative using 30% brightness/contrast most of the time and the burn in disc. So take a closer look for IR; though with my luck it was probably just me that got a dud.

What concerns me though is whether this a sign of poor build quality and future problems down the road. We like to keep our tvs over 10 years (as shown by the fact that this is our 1st hdtv).

Watch your TV for a little while on 30-40% brightness and contrast and you eyes will get used to that. Then put both of them up to 80% and the vibrant colors will blow your mind. Too bad you wont be able to go back to 30-40% again :-p

So far, I like the TV. I'm having some problems with the sound, though.
On HDMI (PS3), if I pump the volume beyond, say, 20, I get a weird reverb/echo effect which really distorts things. Any idea on what that could be?

Is it only noticeable while playing PS3 or do you hear it while watching tv as well? Is there anything around the tv that may be vibrating, or is this tv enclosed in something?

The sound on this tv is somewhat disappointing, when I turn the sound up around 30 it just doesn't sound crisp and clear, hopefully the surround sound will make up for it. If I ever get it that is...

The gift that keeps giving.....
Sold the Z520s that came with the TV for $260. I did not need the DVD player and really wanted more inputs.
So, now I'm looking for a HT system, preferably a Yamaha or Sony, with multiple optical connections with HDMI input/outputs as well....
I used the plasmaTV.com settings and TV looks GREAT!

Like many on this epic forum, my TV arrived damaged. I've been dealing with Dell for weeks now, and I need the help of the SD community. If you received a damaged set and were sent a replacement or a different model (the 550 for example), can you email me your order number?

With the TV on and muted, I can hear the buzzing noise 15 feet away..

No buzz here.

As for crackling speaker, the built in speakers don't tolerate bass well. Turning down the volume, or switching the S. Mode to Clear Voice will usually fix the issue.

I had very low expectations for the built in speakers but they are actually just fine for normal viewing...wouldn't want to watch a movie with them though.

So just got back from Walmart with a tv stand, and i actually really like it. It was only $200 which surprisingly is the same amount you would get for retuning a samsung HT system, go figure.Wink There is a middle shelf, but i liked it better with out it. Its super sturdy, and yes, that is a darth vader potato head.
