Has anyone dealt with Staples rewards Theft??

205 28 July 17, 2010 at 12:02 PM in Question
Ok, so I have been turning in ink cartridges to staples for a while now, and have received rewards since February I believe, and I have never been able to use them except one. I usually waited til the last day before they expired and then they wouldnt work when using them online or in store they wouldnt work, so i just figured i missed my chance, and would try again next month (i know, not the smartest approach, but thats a different issue).

Anyway, since I kept having non-stop problems with my rewards, I just logged onto my account to check my status on rewards.. Well apparently, EVERY single one of my rewards was redeemed in New York by somebody buying external hard drives both times. One was in Staten Island and the other in Selden... The problem here is that I am from Indiana, and have never been to New York in my life.. Now I dont know if 'New York' shows up if you buy online, or if someone guessed my rewards account number, because I keep my computer clean and scan it constantly for everything, and have never posted any information anywhere.. I cant call the rewards people til Monday to figure this out.. Do you think they will credit me with any of these rewards, or am I screwed?

So has anyone else had this happen, or did i win the unlucky lottery again? lol

Post his picture and name and location for everyone to see, you won't be getting trouble for that if it's available on the internet!

Wow, my reply containing no information about this guy was removed w/o an explanation.

Well, like in my reply, I said there was no way I could post that info w/o it being deleted. And my reply to you got deleted anyway.

Keep up the good work SD!

Whoever bought those can be easily tracked. Those were the money making items after rebates posted last month. The name/address to who claimed them will be right on file with Staples.

So if Staples really wants to catch the thieves, tell them what I just said and it will be game over.

Except that the thieves here were almost definitely not the people who used the certificates. Those people probably unknowingly bought certificates from the thieves online, either through e-junkie or on eBay. Selling store credit for less than its value is a common, legitimate thing to do, as plasticjungle.com has shown. Unless the person buying the certificate knew that it was not the seller's certificate to sell, he isn't a thief.

I should have explained further.

Whoever fills out the rebates, Staples should deny them & call the phone number of the person who submitted them. Investigate from there.

I know the person who used them, wasn't the thief but the person who received them knows who is.

I"m not sure about that. I've bought coupons from e-junkie before, dollars off coupons, not rewards, and it's never provided me with the seller's name, only email address.

This problem has been going on for years. A couple years ago a huge number of $5 to $25 gift checks and Discovery card reward checks were stolen and those flooded eBay for more than a year before they ended the program. It was believed that someone who worked in Staples marketing dept was selling the codes to coupon distributors at 90% off the face value. Although the corporate office started an internal investigation those thieves were never caught. Maybe those guys are back, who knows
