Deal Details

Last Edited by beancntr August 1, 2010 at 08:22 PM
Users on sprintusers.com forums claim sprint reps confirm that Android will be available for SERO and other legacy Sprint plans for a $10/month up-charge (plus an additional $10 for "flagship devices" like evo, epic).

This post [sprintusers.com] begins the discussion which will play out for a while on several forums, but there should be more details to come in a press statement by Sprint, rumored to be released to legacy users on 9/1.

The rumored details:
1) October 1st, the restrictions on legacy plans will be lifted
2) Android will cost $10 extra per month for my plan
3) Evo4G would cost an additional $10 per month, for $50 total ($30+10+10)
4) Information will be printed in upcoming bills
5) Customer care received this information recently, but wasn't supposed to say anything until 2 days ago.

If this is posted in the wrong section please forgive me and move the thread. Thank you for your patience.

so will the iphone 4S work on the SEROP / $40 plan since it is only 3G? I am sure the details will be released in the next day or so.
THAT IS THE QUESTION. I highly doubt it. The way Sprint has been treating ALL of their customers recently, don't expect a free handout. IF they even allow the iphone on SEROP I highly doubt it will be at the $40 price point which thus far has been for all non 4g phones. I would expect a new $10 (or more) iphone tax on SEROP plans.

Russ seems to be tight-lipped about it:

According to this post in the add another SERO line thread, from someone who spoke to a CSR (so take it with a tablespoon full of salt), the iPhone 4Gs will cost $50/month on SEROP. If that holds up, then I called it!=)

Hahahahahah CSR hahahahahaha LMAO

If the Sprint CSR says $50, I'm gonna have to say $40, more than $50, or not at all.

LOL. I would not be surprised.

$50 for a non-4G phone does make sense though. But so does leaving SERO users out in the cold for some period of time to see how many will jump ship to non-SERO plans.

Yeah, maybe we will see NO iphone on SEROP!!! And then once everyone jumps ship they will have SEROP w/ iphone addon laugh out loud

Wouldn't surprise me. They did it with all Android phones initially, and even the cheapest smartphone EPRP plan is still $20 more per month than SEROP + 4G add-on, so it makes sense to try to get as many converts as possible.

Engadget is showing that you can pre-order the Iphone 4 now. So I went to Sprint.com and tried to update for my sero account and it looks like I would be able to. However they are charging the $20 extra even though the phone is not 4g! So it looks like SERO is eligible except you are going to pay $50 a month instead of $40!

I don't think you can know whether the amount is $40 or $50 until you actually activate the device and your plan changes. Can a Sprint CSR tell you for sure? When I do the same thing it says the phone will arrive by Oct 15 or so. Surely Sprint knows already what they will charge SERO folk who upgrade.

I certainly would not be completely unsurprised if this did not happen possibly.

Actually I was a little late with this news. I found another thread on SD that confirms what I wrote.

So they want $50 for a 3G iphone or $50 for a 4G android phone...

Perception goes a long way. prey bad if you look at it like that. pretty good if you look at it as $50 for unlimited text/data on an iphone vs. $79.99 for all other sprint users (or more on other carriers without unlimited data).

jailbreak and use with an ipad/tablet and you'll certainly get your money's worth. not even illegal anymore. suppose you can do that with a 4g phoen too though.

i normally get a 20% employer discount on my SERO plan.
last month, for some reason i got another additon 20% employer discount.
so my plan is not around $25 total after all the taxes.

For those of you lucky enough to get the employer discount, anyone else get this additional 20% off?
