help with dell wireless keyboard

jskudera 1,751 154 July 28, 2010 at 06:31 PM More eBay Deals
hi all - over the weekend I spilled milk on my wireless keyboard. wasn't a big deal until i noticed some of my keys were not working. i decided i'd buy a replacement one, but for some reason i can't get it hooked up.

it's a dell M756C multimedia wireless keyboard - the link is here if you want to look at a picture: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI....K:MEWNX:IT

i put batteries in the replacement one and try to sync it with my keyboard and mouse, but for some reason the keyboard isn't being recognized. I have a dell studio hybrid computer, had it for over a year now. can't remember how the hell the keyboard and mouse got setup. there is no external receiver. does anyone know how I can link up the new one? it's really quite frustrating and i'd just like to have all my keys working!!

thanks in advance...

What is this bluetooth? It HAS to have some sort of pairing device either built into your computer or external. You can't just press a button an expect it to work. Look in your control panel and see if there is some utility that allows you to "sync" or "pair" the device.

yeah, i guess it's bluetooth. when i put the batteries in my old keyboard (which I'm using to type now), i just hit the sync button on the back of the keyboard and it turned on.

i'm in control panel - there is a sync icon, but just to sync data from another computer.

There has to be a device either plugged into a USB port or built into the computer internally for the keyboard to be able to sync up and connect. Look and see if you have one for the old keyboard plugged into the back -- it mightlook like a USB jump drive. The replacement should have had one that came with it -- look in the box.

What is the Model of your computer?

There is nothing plugged in to the USB - I checked 10 times. The PC doesn't even have a PS2 port for keyboard or mouse, so I guess it's got to be built in. Just don't know how to sync the new keyboard.

Look for something that looks like just a little half moon sticking out of a USB port.

Under control panel you should have a bluetooth icon. Look near your time at the bottom right too. It looks like this.

Double click it and you should be able to add a new device.

Yeah, don't know why they blocked it, but it was for a USB dongle for bluetooth that looks like a half moon sticking out of a USB port. Very small and could be overlooked easily. Look again and see if you have anything sticking out of a port.

Try clicking on Start -> Devices and Printers and add new device. Outside of this, I'm not sure.
