Cheapest way to ship a monitor in for repair?

Derfledermous 187 50 July 29, 2010 at 09:15 PM
Hi all, my Acer 22" LCD WS monitor died 3 weeks ago. I spoke with Best Buy about repair, and since it is still under manufacturer's warranty, Best Buy guy said he could just ship it to their repair center for repair. I told him that I didn't purchase the monitor from BB, but that I got it from Newegg. He said, no problem, as long as it's still under manufacturer's warranty.

3 weeks pass, and the repair center sent it back saying that they couldn't repair it and that I needed to send it back to Acer for repair.

Soooooo, right now, I'm so pissed that I could punch babies. Anyway, I need to know the cheapest way to get this thing to boxed up and shipped to Acer's repair center in Texas. Never shipped anything this big... any of you guys know, approx, how much it's gonna cost me to ship this monitor from Vegas to Texas?

Thanks.

UPS, FedEx, and USPS all offer shipping quotes if you put in the dimensions/weight of the package. I'd suggest contacting Acer and see if they have a shipping account they'll let you utilize to get their shipping rate.

Iagree

Contact Acer, they may send you a return "kit" including pre-paid shipping label. Cool

Apparently, Acer doesn't pay for shipping to their repair facility. I pay to ship it to them, they fix it and ship it back to me. Kind of sucks, but, I can't afford to buy a new monitor right now.

It's the bag your Life Coach uses to carry things like bottled water, ibuprofen, duct tape, band-aids, warming lube, carrots, sleep masks, hand sanitizer, and little bags of popcorn for when you get cranky.

This is pretty common and I agree it sucks but like you said its better than spending $150 on a new monitor. Try this website to get the best estimate http://www.uship.com/price_estimator.aspx

Thanks all for the help and suggestions. I think UPS Ground is going to be my best option. The monitor is really not that heavy, so, the shipping cost shouldn't break me.

I had just send back ASUS Netbook for bad issue with the LED/LCD panel shown here [the-talk.net]

ASUS wanted me to take it to BB so they can look at it! Hog wash! I had told them, I've been repairing laptops since 1998. So they gave me RMA number good for 30 days. Last week Thursday I had packed up unit in the OEM box and in another box. ASUS didn't want me to use UPS, so I had to use FedEx Express to send the 6lb Netbook back to ASUS. Cost was only $11 bucks. I had gone to the airport since there was no other FedEx drop off centers here. Tracking the item which only too 4 days to get to ASUS. I am tracking (twitter/tipstir) their progress to see how long it going to take them to repair the issue? I had hated to send it back to the OEM but it was still under warranty I and wasn't going open it up and deal with them over parts. STill I hope they fix the issue. In the box contains 2 large 8x12 photos of the issue and a step-by-step letter telling the ASUS tech what he or she needs to do to have the same issue. Also I wanted to know their findings?

I still have a funny feeling it's going to be there until after Labor Day!

When I ask for a tablet they shouldn't tell me to go into the pharmacy to get one! Wink

FedEx Ground is usually cheaper than UPS, and there's no extra charge for it at Kinko's.

Hmm, I've actually never used FedEx to ship anything. I'll give them a shot, especially if it will come out cheaper. Thanks, guys Smilie

I wonder if you will get the same monitor back or a refub. Write down the serial number before you ship it out. I agree with ground fedex (RPSI - SCAC code) being the cheapest to ship. To protect the front of the monitor place a couple of pieces of cardboard. It used to be when you signed up for a FedEx account you got a discount at first, but I don't know if that is still the case. Also, all packing materials are free with an account.
