Gamer's Lounge Charter Revision: Don't post entire articles or large blocks of text

thats exactly what i was thinking. i must have entered the twilight zone because for the first time ever, Cutie's entire post was intelligent, made sense, and he had a good point.

Makes sense to me...sites make money on hits...if you are taking away hits by posting the whole article here...then why should they even take the time to write articles???

Personally...I think we need 75% of the "news" sites on the internet to go out of business...all they do is post to an official MS or Sony release and then say "Leave a comment about what you think!"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this dipshit of a lawyer have to be hired by the media outlets in order to do his copyright trolling? If that's the case I believe most of the sources we get our gaming news from (Kotaku, Joystiq, Arts technica, etc..) are against this type of bullshit and would never hire someone like this.

So unless I got the above wrong, if I have an article from the sources mentioned above, I'm posting the entire thing. I highly encourage others to do the same. I feel sad that SD would give in to this guy who's clearly trying to compensate for something. Stand up to this SD. I think we should try and compile a list of newspaper publications that have submitted to this loser and blacklist those, while also whitelisting the sites that we're safe to copy/paste from. I can't imagine major news networks like CNN, Fox News, BBC, etc.. submitting to this guy either...

While I understand and agree with why Slickdeals is doing this, I think it's bullshit.

The defense attorneys and some defendants without attorneys are making complex legal arguments about whether the Nevada court has jurisdiction over the out-of-state defendants, whether Righthaven itself has standing to sue and whether Righthaven failed to follow the law in filing no-warning lawsuits rather than first sending requests or takedown orders to the infringing websites.

“What makes this action frivolous is the baseless allegations pertaining to the existence of personal jurisdiction over me, when it should have been crystal clear to Righthaven that I am not amenable to suit in Nevada. The complaint is replete with false averments in an attempt to mislead the court, which is a blatant abuse of process,” said Dean Mostofi, who was sued after an R-J story about a lawyer being reprimanded allegedly was posted on his website deanmostofi.com.

I seriously can't believe this crap. Isn't this part of Freedom of the Press? Or Speech? Not sure which..but as long as I'm citing the source (like anyone would do in a research paper), I can't even imagine how the hell this can be legal.

edit: And FYI, this isn't something SD should have been done in response to legal action or the threat of legal action. Numerous other message boards have had such a rule for many, many years simply because they understand the way the law works in this regard. If you think they should allow wholesale copying of articles on the message board then you might as well allow linking to game ROMs and warez, because it is the same concept.
