Portable app for Virtual Drive or ISO program

Rubicante 120 119 August 13, 2010 at 09:40 AM
Hello SDers,

I have a need for a portable app to either open ISO or create a virtual drive so i can mount iso files. I visited protableapps.com and looked up the portable apps on wiki but have been striking out. Does anyone have any recommendations? TYIABig Grin

Not sure something like this exists as these types of programs usually have to install drivers to make the virtual drives appear real. Are you on Windows? What version and what are you trying to do?

Mostly using windows XP. I use dvdfab to back up anime as an ISO image and would like to be able to mount them and watch them at work(during down time). The pcs at work don't even have a dvd drive so its impossible to just bring the disk in.

I don't think you're going to find a portable application to install an ISO mount. Such programs tend to require a fair amount of lower level installation (as LiquidRetro pointed out, drivers) as well as other aspects.

You may be better off with a program that can read ISO files like archives, such as ISO buster or WinRAR.

Oh if your just playing video files you dont need to mount the disk image. VLC will play iso files no problem and there is a portable version of that. http://portableapps.com/apps/musi...c_portable

Doing video like this is a pretty inefficient way watch video, as its uncompressed and takes q decent amount of through put to play the files. Encoding them as h.264 would likely be better.

I found this linky [makeuseof.com] on another forum with a question similar to yours. Maybe it will be helpful to you.

Well, it looks like LiquidRetro already answered your questions. However, if you need to mount an ISO for any other reason, take a look at the above link.

Repped. The download is only 60KB and, as a portable app, worked perfectly.

Virtual Clonedrive will mount an ISO like a CD/DVD drive.
