Thread Details

I received a flyer in the mail today from Select Comfort. My husband and I purchased a closeout deal last year, and really like it. I'm not sure why they'd think we'd want to buy one again this year. The only difference between their regular beds, we were told, and the closeout beds are that the closeout beds are last years models. It still has the 20-Year Limited Warranty as all of their beds, the only difference is you can't send it back if you don't like it. They also have a post-it note that says FREE! Foundation legs on Factory Outlet Closeout Bed Sets. Also, Save 25% on accessories when you add one of our special packages to your Sleep Number bed purchase. I'm just typing what is printed on the flyer. If you know someone who has purchased a Select comfort bed find out their Comfort Club Member number and they get a referral gift when you purchase one. The prices listed are as follows:
Mattresses Current 5000 price 5000 closeout model price
Twin Traditional 899.99 499.99
Full tradional( single air chamber) 1249.99 799.99
Queen Traditional 1299.99 899.99
Queen Pillowtop 1499.99 999.99
Exp Queen Pillowtop 1599.99 1099.99
King Pillowtop 1799.99 1199.99
[U]Matching Foundations
Twin Foundation 249.99 199.99
Full Foundation 349.99 299.99
Queen Foundation 399.99 349.99
Exp Queen Foundation 499.99 399.99
King Foundation 599.99 499.99
Shipping and Handling is 49.99 per mattress, foundation or set.
My 3 year old and I set our set up, but you can have the company set it up for you.
The telephone number to call is 1-800-311-2057 and the flyer says and we were told last year, that not available in stores. However, I called a semi-local store and they were able to place the order for me. The flyer says, that orders accepted thru 4/17/06
Hope this helps someone. Smilie

I recieved the same flyer (we had just been to the S.C. retail store in the mail about a week earlier) but once I read the fine print it states that the "air pump" maybe refurbs. I did not think that it was a very good deal.
1) As you stated you do not get the 30 day in home trial period.
2) Possible refurbed equipment (the most important part IMO)
3) You have to pay shipping. (around 200.00 I think, Free shipping normally from Select comfort.)
4) They are coming out with a New 5000 series bed.

The flyer is misleading because it quotes full blown retail prices (but the beds are always on sale and then you have to add the shipping charges to the Closeout beds.)

When it was all said and done I would only save 400.00 - 500.00 on a King bed. I didn't want to get stuck with a refurbed 2000.00 + bed I didn't like. When Full retail was only approx 2400-2500.00

But If you know you will like it and will not need to send it back then maybe 400.00 savings is worth it ??

wow. I have been considering shopping for these mattresses and when I saw this post I got really excited. That is until I read the epinions reviews...no way I would buy one now. I am extremely allergic to mold. No way I would buy a bed that might have a mold/mildew problem.

There is no mold problem. That was out in the news over a year ago, and was an unsubstantiated rumor. The story was sorta dropped before it even got started. Disclosure and reason I know this because I am a Select Comfort stockholder and have been closely following this company. In fact, I bought shares around the time the news story "broke". Where would mold live in this "mattress" - it's built on air? In fact, it has been proven that you should have more mold worries with a traditional mattress than an air mattress.

I have the king 7000 bed about 8 months now, best investment ever. All my back pain gone! It took about a week to find my number then bam, sleep through the night no back pain etc etc. If you can afford one, get one!

These are not refurbed beds they are last years models. I don't know how mold could be a problem, how could you have a mold problem when the bed consists of plastic foam sides and a thick plastic air matress. The foundation consists of heavy grade plastic, so no mold could live there. The only place the mold could grow, in my opinion, would be in the cover, which is really like a big pillowcase with a pillowtop that you stuff the air mattress, and foam sides in and zipper close. Every mattress has a cover.
We did not get to try a bed before we bought one, because it is 3 hour drive to the closest store in Pittsburgh. We took a chance because the closeout mattresses were so much cheaper, even though there was no trial period.
As I stated in the opening thread the flyer states Shiping and Handling only $49.99 per mattress, foundation, or set.
$400-$500 is a lot of money to me, after pricing a number of other beds. In the flyer they even advertise No Payments, No Interest for 90 Days.( on their credit card)
This deal is for some, not everyone. Atleast if you live close to a store you can try one out first. The same as you would any other mattress.

I bought this bed (5000 King) back in Dec. on the same kind of a sale. We have been very happy with the bed. My flyer said Refurbished Sleep number beds with brand new mattress fabric coverings. This would include floor samples, showroom models, refused shipments, and returns. I found every piece to be in like new condition. I have been thinking of getting one for each of my kiddies as they have both been begging ever since we got ours, but I think I will wait for the refurb sale again because the prices were about $100 per piece less than this sale

We have 6 of these mattresses in our home, one is close to 10 years old. The best thing is after flipping that king size mattress every month for years, now I never have to do that again. We even have one on the top bunk of a bunk bed. That mold thing is rumor to kill the competition, sort of like the rumors that a MLM soap company spread about a different soap company.

I got this Bed while facing financial concerns with my bad back. Though it did not fix my back (that would be a miracle) it made my life 15% easier through less pain and better rest. That 15% is worth buying that bed every three months!!!! And it lasts 10-20 years Smilie That purchase has been one of the best I have ever made in my life.

Question:::: My parents got a queen from QVC and quite honestly it sucks???? We opened it up and the foam inser was too big and causing a Hump on the edges. Now its better but still seems less comfortable then the king at home. Same style of bed???? Does QVC take/make mutts of these beds? And if so, buyer beware on doing a QVC deal, FYI....

Cheers,

ko
