So I am thinking about getting a low profile video card for my desktop, which has a slim tower. I am looking at ebay now and came across a few where I'm not sure if the low profile bracket is included or not. I've contacted one seller already, but was wondering if a bracket is really necessary. I figured without the bracket, there will just be a hole in the back of my tower, which isn't really a big deal to me. But I am not sure if the bracket is there to provide additional support for the video card. Can someone clarify this for me?
I would definitely find a card with a low-profile bracket. Making a bracket is a PITA and isn't worth the time and effort. AND not using any bracket is asking for problems ...... you'll have a video cable plugged into the card and if the cable moves the card will move, possibly unseating from the slot, which isn't good when the system is running.
I recently bought the ATI 5570 low profile card with 1GB of DDR3 and LOVE it. I've tried others before and haven't had anywhere near this much success with a card. I think it was $80~ from SuperBizz and worth every penney. I use it in my SFF Dell 530s HTPC.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I probably look for cards that come with the bracket now.
The 5570 would be my choice, but it's out of my budget. So I'm actually looking at the 4650 which was sold out a few days ago at newegg for around $40. Looked around some other sites but couldn't find a good price on it, so now I am trying ebay.
