AOL account hacked, spams sent, password changed -- help!
Of course, the one weekend I'm out of state camping with no internet access.. my account gets hacked to send out spam emails to friends and family and I can't get in to fix it. So when I get home, I try to log in to change my password.. and my password doesn't work. So now I have a hacked account and I can't even get into my account. I've heard horror stories of AOL not doing much in terms of help. My dad is still the primary account holder so I'll have to have him call about it.. but I'm really worried about losing the emails, receipts, and records I've had for over 10 years on this account. Has anyone else had this experience and can toss some ideas my way? don't call. | go phils. | psn:houshamazilla. % RB2 Endless Setlist (expert drums): FINISHED!! % |

IMMEDIATELY change the ONE password that you are using for everything and/or multiple things to a different password for EVERYTHING!
most likely your password was compromised on one of those flim-flam messenger, gaming, etc. sites. Last edited by greenmeansgoooo; 09-05-2010 at 01:26 PM.. |

Looks like this thread got derailed, but thanks for the advice. I'm guilty (as many are) of using one password for multiple sites, no matter how "secure" that password might seem -- looks like that's a likely culprit. Am now in the process of changing over all passwords, at least important ones, to a new coding system.
Thanks again for the input. (AOL account restored, btw. Pass and security questions had been changed by the hacker; luckily no emails deleted or anything else messed with, it seems.) |
