Warranty Clarification for Toshiba Canvio 500GB Portable Hard Drive (International Warranty?)
Hi,A cousin of mine is bringing a Toshiba Canvio 500GB Portable Hard Drive (as a gift--Includes 3-year limited warranty) from India. I would like to know if I will be able to claim the warranty in the United States if the device fails. I've checked the Toshiba website and information is given to only those drives that are purchased in the states. Also, I tried to contact Warranty/RMA and Technical Support in the last couple of days but was never able to establish a connection with the representatives. Please let me know. Thank you. |

Read the fine print of the warranty. No one here can tell you for sure. With most warranty claims they require you to have either registered the device when you bought it (which you say the store you brought it from) or require you to submit a receipt at the time of the claim. Not sure what Toshiba does. I would try to contact support again maybe send an email. Either way a warranty claim should it ever have to be used will only replace the drive. It does nothing about the data on the drive so if its important stuff have more than one copy of it. You also have to weigh the fact that you can buy this now for probably around $50-60 (assuming its a 3.5" drive) so how much of your time is worth the fight this is taking.

Confusing as Toshiba India does not even mention they sell external drives? Is is 110 or 220 voltage? It sounds like you are getting a US model drive they happened to get in India not an Indian sold drive is that correct?
They do have a site for warranty repairs http://www.csd.toshiba |
