College is pretty worthless in my opinion. Spent more on a degree then I'm making in a year.

College degree is the new high school degree. With a business degree, you should go for your MBA. Find a company that will pay for more schooling.

Yeah no kidding. I started school in 2000 when the markets were still good. Went part time at first.

Such a pain to get experiance in business though. Its like where can you really start at to get experiance to move on.

Honestly, I am not trying to be a dick or anything but internships are readily available in all industries. Those who are motivated and want experience can gain it by putting themselves out there and dedicating some time to it. I know specifically from experience!

Lol, thank goodness for spell check then. Do you know if there are part time internships? I will have to look into it.

The key would be to go to your college department and ask. My college's website pushes you towards them and most of them pay very well if they are with larger organizations.

IMO college is still worth something. You just chose two degree paths that don't automatically lend themselves to anything. Acting, like you already said, is not a career choice that's going to work for you unless you spend a lot of time and such on it. Business is a very general degree. Lots of people Have degrees in business, but what does that really qualify you to do? Management, Marketing, Finance and Accounting seem like business degrees with actual directions. I'd pick a place that you want to be going into and do an internship, for sure. Even in my podunk backroads town, I've managed to find potential internships with accounting firms (I'm a dual major, management/accounting).

Just make sure you get a degree worth something, I would rarely consider a history, art or theatre degree a "high" value degree

Bachelor of Science in marketing, stats math computer science and the health degrees have great value when earned from a good institution.

If your unhappy with your job, find another one that pays better, it's up to graduates to make themselves WORTH the pay.

College is pretty worthless nowadays. At least you only owe $30K in debt total. I'm looking at nearly $200K to attend one of the best law schools in the country, and yet, I'm not sure that I'm going to find any paying legal job after I graduate this May. Up to a couple years ago, somewhere around 85-90% of on-campus interview ("OCI") participants got jobs out of OCI, which are almost all large law firms that pay $160K /year. This last year there was a total of 3,300 large firm spots nationwide -- with 45,000 law school graduates expected in 2011. If you ask me, I think you would be much better off just trying to make your way up some company than wasting your time going to get another degree. My understanding is that it is just as bad, if not worse, as law everywhere else (e.g. i-banking, automotive, etc have all been in the shitter). So it doesn't seem like it would make a ton of sense to go rack up even more debt to get another degree -- particularly a graduate degree like an MBA, which will cost you around $60K+ year, including cost of living, for 2 years.

I agree the average college degree is way too common, but that is more due to the weakness of the highschool degree. High school has become a joke in which way too many people can graduate without actually learning anything, making college the next/only option of differentiation. If we went back to making As and Bs valid grades throughout school instead of the norm for most students who 'try hard' I think life would be better. Onto college I am sorry you picked two worthless degrees for a 4 year education. Acting (ha) and Business both require a large amount of extras. As stated, with business you either need an MBA (or law degree), the incentive to start (and succeed) on your own, or some pretty nice connections. I graduated in 08 with a degree in multiple bio fields (chemistry, physics, etc) and knew I still needed more to do what I wanted and to make money doing it. Went into grad school 1 month after graduating (for PhD), full tuition covered and stipend covered (raise of 8% this year actually), and will be getting an extra MPH for free in the process (if I keep up classes while in lab). In the end I would say you made poor choices with your degree choice if you only wanted 4 years of education or you made a poor choice in not continuing your education upon graduation.

Everyone who keeps claiming they have huge loans after attending these great schools in whatever field and yet can't find a job tells me one thing, they really aren't doing well compared to their classmates. I don't care if you are going to Harvard or some no-name place, if you are last in your class, you are LAST. Stop assuming the school name next to your degree is all you need and actually compete with your classmates. Do extra, work harder, whine less. I won't claim to be the top of my class, but I am definitely top 20% and aim to have extras to put me in top 5%. Do the same.

I think college degrees are still important; however, you have to be careful what field/career you choose. An English major isn't going to get you the money or opportunity that an IT or engineering degree might fetch. I would prefer entering college students choose professional related fields, like pharmacy, nursing, speech therapy, etc. You have a college degree and a profession when you graduate.
