What are my options, i want to feed a rca or vga video signal to a tv in seperate areas
i have a security DVR that has VGA and also a rca video out. I want to output one of the signals to 3 other tvs/computer monitors in the home.I cannot run cables to one location. there is currently an ethernet cable and single coax at this location. the coax is used currently for direct tv, the ethernet is going to my ps3 from a router. What are my options to get this video signal over to the tv? any way to transmit it over the ethernet line and still share if for internet? diplex the coax and feed the rca video signal? will that work? thanks for any suggestions. |

I don't think you can diplex composite video over coax with the Sat signal. The video isn't a "frequency" that can be split in and out. It's just a ton of bandwidth.
If the IP network's CAT5 is running 10/100, you can split out (2) pairs for ethernet and (2) pairs for video/audio with a Composite video RJ45 balun. Gigabit ethernet needs all (4) pairs. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI...._680wt_972 You can "broadcast" the signal over VHF/UHF frequencies with a low powered transmitter to a TV with an antenna connected. Tune to the proper channel and see the signal. http://cgi.ebay.com/Wireless-UHF-...1323wt_936 |

In the old analog cable days you could multiplex the signal onto the cable line on an unused channel via an RF modulator. I am doubtful you will find much unused bandwidth you can get to cheaply with digital cable. A last idea is if you can place a PC near the DVR (or if the DVR IS a computer) you could set up a webserver with either the video streamed directly or thru a capture device. This would require a web device at each TV though. Spektre |

perhaps you could simply convert the signal to a data broadcast over your IP network...using a pc to capture the signal from the camera...think like a webcast if you will...

Thanks everyone for the ideas, i like the one using the ip network and splitting out the signals, is there more information on what pairs to use? i am only using 10/100 for this line currently, dont think the ps3 can handle more that that now.

Here's a pinout of 10/100 showing the 2 pairs used. http://pinouts.ru/NetworkCables/E...nout.shtml Spektre |
