My computer keep crashing when playing some 1080p movies!

My computer keep crashing when playing certain 1080p movies. On some 1080p movies, its fine. It never crash when playing 720p movies.

Right now I am playing it on my computer( not EXTENDED) and it still crash.

I got the green HD 5750 video card with no 6 pin power. I got a 700W PSU. See all my specs below.

When the computer crash, sometime it would just freeze. Other time it would not freeze and my VMware Workstation would freeze and stop working. I always have to do a cold boot to get it working again.

I went to the Event Viewer and look at all the logs at the time of crash and NOTHING.

Anyone have any ideas on how to find out?

I find it suprising I cant find the error in the event view logs.

I just dont know what it is. Is it because not enough power to the video card? I have no clue right now.

What are you using to play the files with? Use something that supports DXVA [sourceforge.net] - which shifts all the processing to your video card and not your CPU. Should fix the problem. Media player home cinema + ffdshow should work.

is this blu-ray, hd-dvd? or "rips"?

also, what media player are you using?

My gut is telling me to check that psu. It may have nice specs but it may also be damaged. Visually inspect it to look for exploded caps.

Nothing show up in the event log. So I still dont know how to troubleshoot this.

Go download Mediainfo (I suggest the "no installer" version) http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/...ad/Windows and then run it on a file that plays fine, and a file that crashes.

Post a SS, and feel free to blank out any personal info and such.

Uninstall the k-lite codec pack and mpc you have.

Download Media player classic home cinema (google it).

just noticed, you bought a "used" cpu - any chance that the person before you failed at overclocking it or something? have you tested it with the intel burn test or prime95 or something similar?
