Anyone swtiched their energy provider (electricity)?

Has anyone switch their energy provider to one of these alternate energy suppliers? If so, is it worth it? Did you have any issues?

Anyone know about Constellation Energy? I got an offer to switch my energy provider from Jersey Power & Light to Constellation. They are offering a free gift Target card plus approximately a 16% savings on my energy cost. Its 12 months fixed with 6 months variable.

I would like to jump on this but do not know if its worth it. Thanks

Your electric company doesn't bill you a fixed rate for 12 months. I forget exactly how it works, it's been a while since I did the calculations (previous job), but it's more expensive some months and less expensive other months and rates change, etc.

You really need to do the math yourself, only you can decide if it's worth it to you.

Your best bet would be to have a copy of at least the last 6 months of bills handy when speaking to the new electricity supplier. Your utility company most likely bases most of the supply portion on the market rate (which usually does not fluctuate much). So, you should ask this supplier what they will be charging per kwh at a fixed rate and then check your bill to see how it compares. Also ask if you can cancel at any time. Having your utility company purchase it may very well be cheaper. You will also still be billed from your utility for delivery of the electricity even if you switch.

think of enron,put in the energy company name in a seach and add complaints,all they do is sell you same elecricity and add in middle man fee

I wish I had a choice. heck, I wish I even got direct billing, we have a 3rd party billing, and I don't even know what my rate is

I made a thread about this awhile back.

I just stayed with my current supplier because anything I could find about "the other guys" lead me to believe that the rates they gave were teaser rates, only guaranteed for 6 months or so. The rate fluctuates and it may be better or worse than the "power company".

in addition to delivery cost there will still be a service cost, which is usually around $20 of your electric bill.

not yet, my current energy provider works fine on me.

I know people that bought green energy. It was fine until about a year later when it went from $35 to $300. This is cause there was a shortage of green energy in the country.

I would ask for a complete breakdown of what they will charge. Still if you can find anyone that has already switched over and see if they have hidden charges?

Anyways, I believe it is smart to switch to one of the more affordable providers. Our utility company in PA (PP&L) is encouraging all customers to switch to an electric supplier that is most affordable for the customer.

So basically, you still use your local utility, but you get a cheaper electric rate. It makes sense to spend less on your electric bill. So my suggestion is that you should definitely switch to the better rate.
