AMC's The Walking Dead [Spoilers!]

Actually that's one thing I did not like... It was very inconsistent as to the population of zombies. I'll take both of your examples as my own (spoiler):

When the father was looking for his wife, there were zombies EVERYWHERE on the street! Yet, at the same time of day, even after driving a car, there was only the one zombie in the entire park that Rick found...

The St. Louis thing was horrible IMO. First of all.. there's NO reason he should have gone in the city. There was every indication that this was a bad idea. Then.. he makes it to the middle of the city seeing one or two zombies, turns down one street and there are bajillions, then turns around and all of a sudden all streets are flooded?? Wtf!? And his horse does nothing to try to trample/jump/run/get away at all?? And finally, if he knew how to get in the tank.. why the hell would he put his gun up to his head for half a second?

I was just really disappointed w/the whole StL scene in general...

He was told (by the father) that the city was a sanctuary, they heard it was safe and there were survivors there. That's why when Rick's wife heard him over the emergency frequency radio thing that he was heading into the city, she freaked out and wanted to help. She also said something along the lines of "We should have put a sign outside the city to let survivors know it's dangerous there!". Regarding the zombie swarm in the city, they respond to noise and movement. When he first entered the city, things were "normal" so the zombies weren't gathered @ the city entrance because they were preoccupied with whatever they were doing at the dead end they were at but once his horse started making all that noise, they swarmed him.

Really damn good show, good storyline, well shot. No cheap HEY LOOK AT ME scares either.

My Spoiler explanation.
It was actually Atlanta, not St. Louis. The reason why he turned the corner and saw a bunch of zombies was because they were all hoarded in the shadow of the buildings, something that was explained in the beginning when they said the zombies come out at night because they like the cool weather. And with the tank scene, he was going to shoot himself in the head but when he looked up to put the gun against his temple he saw the tank opening and jumped in. Another possible explanation although less likely was there appeared to be a military patrol heli in the city circling so perhaps the zombies were following the sound outside of the city they were apparently barricaded into

Its actually funny you mention the speed of zombies, zombies are usually (in the case of any Ramero movie and this show) a metaphor for over consumption, in old movies zombies were slow and mindlessly looking for food but todays zombies are fast paced and almost human like because todays world is so much faster than before.

If zombies were actually walking dead they would have characteristics of dead people.

Including rigor mortis and slow walking.

They are following the comic pretty closely and they don't talk much about it till pretty far along (issues later 40's or so) if I remember correctly. It's left as a mystery. Yeah, would have been nice to keep that his family was alive at least until the next episode. From what I heared AMC has already order up Season 2, I think there are only 10-12 planned for season 1.

Its perfect.
Zombies would be like any other hungry creature. Resting and storing up energy in order to find something to eat.
So zombies wouldn't be simply patrolling around the city but would likely be resting.

Yea the city was a bad idea simply because populated areas are not where you would want to head but he was riding in under the assumption there was military control 1 or 2 zombies is nothing and he knew it he was going to just ride away from them but when he saw the chopper he wanted to catch up with it and ran into a resting hoard.

He DIDNT know about the opening. Which makes it so perfect. He was about to kill himself looked up and saw the opening and didn't pull the trigger. I thought that was perfect.

afx... your explanation about following the sound made a lot of sense.

I still don't like the whole first scenario I mentioned tho.

And my big problem w/the last bit I mentioned is that it happened way too fast.. he acted as if he was acting like he didn't know about it but knew the entire time. There was no surprise or anything... it was like, "well I know I need to go here, but first I have to make it look like I don't know about it."

Just watched episode 1, thoughts:
1. When the hell will Hollywood learn about guns? At the roadblock at the beginning, the Sheriff tells the deputy to "make sure you've got a round in the chamber and the safety's off" First, Glocks don't have a safety and secondly, when he racks the slide, you can clearly see the gun IS NOT loaded.
2. Cops can't shoot for s**t.
3. You wake up in a hospital and no one's around, you make your way out seeing blood and bullet holes on the walls and dead bodies, you come across a military camp and you don't think to find a weapon or "borrow" a Humvee?
4. Apparently zombies don't care about fresh meat if you're in a coma.
5. When the SHTF, I want Lennie James (Hawkins from Jericho) on my team, he's a badass mofo.
6. Zombies enjoy chillin' on the bus.
7. Again, when you see military equipment, including fully loaded M2 machine guns, you don't think to scavenge for weapons & supplies.
8. A horse feeds a lot of zombies.
9. It's apparently better to crawl under a tank, rather than climb on top and try to get in or use the Ma Deuce to blast some undead a-holes.
10. The Sheriff has absolutely no survival mentality.

Update: Watching episode 2:
1. If you're gonna chop up a zombie, you may as well rob his ass. Hopefully he's an organ donor.

Okay, sooooooo it was raining REALLY hard as they were walking down the street. Hard enough (and long enough), to wash off not only the "stink" but some flesh and blood, too. Dark clouds covering the sky.

Fast forward 10 minutes and they are speeding through the streets RIGHT near the building housing the folks thay are attempting to rescue ... but the streets are dry as bone and there's not a cloud in the sky.

WTF?????
