Free VOIP phone service with local area code
Whistlephone is a free voip provider but there was only 401 area code available when it first show up on slickdeals (http://slickdeals.net/forums/show...&t=2117290). It was a nice backup phone if you do not mind listening to 15 sec ad for out going call. It works with ATA even it is not officially supported. It is very nice if you can use ATA. You do not need a 24-7 computer dedicate to it, unlike MagicJack is doing everything it can to keep users away from using ATA.
Now the sweet thing is that many if not all area codes are available. You can change it once if you are an existing user. I assume new users can pickup their own area code at sign-in.
You do not have to worry like before with only 401 area code, if the person you call sees a non-local caller ID and treats it like a spam.
Your sip info is provided from Whistle, so just put them into your ATA box using the attached picture as a reference. It is that easy
