Target is usually pretty well organized.

They hand out a map and the big ticket items are usually in the main aisles to avoid massive frustration in electronics. For instance the large tv's were already in carts and lines up along the clothing.

Right before the doors open, employees stand in between the line and the parking lot to ensure that no one comes from their car to cut in line and they rope it off.

They walked down the line to find out who wanted what and let them know how many of that item they had. For instance..they had 10 large tvs. The 11th person in line knew they werent going to get one. The girl walked around with a notepad and had the top 5 items and scratched them off as the asked the next person in line "Whats the 1 large item you came here for"

The door opening was not massive at first. They allowed 5 people, then 5 people, then 10 people..and then the rest. This allowed the people who were there first the opportunity to get their item.

A few years ago Best Buy handed out tickets for their big tickets items. They had x number in stock and x number of tickets. Then those who know they weren't getting that particular item knew to change their game plan.

my local radioshack allows items to be PM on black friday so i might just get some stuff ahead of time.

i'm not sure if this is a stupid question, but if walmart is open 24hrs, how can there be a line? (this is my first time shopping on BF). can't we be in the store already and have the items in our carts before the deal even starts??

This will be my first 5am Black Friday experience (not counting when I worked at Best Buy on BF 4 years ago). Question: I am planning on just going to Wal-Mart. My hope is to buy a laptop (probably the 17" one) as well as Red Dead Redemption for Xbox 360 for $30. Will I be able to successfully buy both of those items since they're both in the electronics section?

I saw someone earlier in the thread say that they line you up inside the store depending on the item you want, which is why I am unsure if I can get both items by myself.
