Brother MFC 240C "Print Unable 51" error

There's no jam, ink levels are ok, printer hasn't been moved since it was set up.. it's "JustWorked" up until now. Tried to do a stand-alone copy and get "Print Unable 51" error.

Printer is now useless heap of plastic, metal and cheap Chinese electronics unless this error can get cleared.

Google searches suggest "paper scraps being stuck under the print head, on the maintenance unit or at the flushing box."

Also found a funky sounding solution, but I've never worked with the Brother printer so maybe this is perfectly logical:

1.Go Menu
Type in *2864
Type in 10
Code WSW00 shows
Type in 51
Code WSW51 0000001 will show
Try different values, eg change to 000000 or 0000010
BUT remember original code to get back to
To exit type 99
Also can try.
· Machine off
· Switch on the machine while holding down the "menu"button until all the leds are flashing on/off. Now you are in "maintenance" mode.
· Press 80
· Press the "mono start" button several times until you see "purge: xxxx"
· Press "2783" in order to reset the purge counter. You will see: "purge:0000"
· Press the "stop" button.
· Press "99" to exit the maintenance mode.

Hope this helps!

wading through the absolute crap that comes up on a google search (fixya and other junk sites) is painful...

i find the second thing you list has to do with resetting purge count for a "clean unable" error, which is different. this printer's purge count is far under the threshold to trigger that error, but i reset it anyway with no change in the "print unable" error.
