How to open 2004 Honda Accord EX CD Changer

kashif_82 70 13 November 25, 2010 at 10:06 AM
Hi, I have been searching online and other than hearing it is pain in the butt to do so, I did not find any guide or info about it. So, as the title says, is there a way to open the stereo/CD changer on the car. I bought the car and the CD player has a CD stuck in it. I can use other features (radio, aux) but I cannot insert, remove, change, or play any CDs. There are 4 CDs currently in there.

TIA for any help.

Ok, WHY can't you remove or insert a CD? What happens when you try? Is this the 6 CD in dash changer? Is there an error code on the screen?

6CD changer. No error on the screen. When you select CD, you hear the noise you would usually hear when you change a CD (from those that already in there while listening). The person who I bought the car from a few months ago simply said that there was a CD stuck in there (don't know the details on that). The price was really good so and didn't want to pass up on it.

Well, I see 4 options:

1: Remove the player from the car, and take it somewhere for repair.
2: Long THIN needle nose pliers, and try to grab the stuck disc through the door, and pull it out. This can work, but will damage the disc if not already damaged.
3: Tear the player apart yourself, and get the disc out that way.
4: Leave it, and tell people you have a rare 5-disc player!

Oh, if you try # 3, take it out of the dash, and lay it on some white paper (easy to see things that fall out, etc.) . Look it over well, and try to figure out what screws you'd have to remove to get inside. They are probably Phillips head screws. Remove them one at a time, and lay them on the paper in a pattern similar to where they are on the player. IE: a left front screw, would sit on the paper on the left front side, etc. That helps to remember how to put it all back together later. Try to look at the screws closely on removal, in case they are different lengths. IF they are different lengths, there's a reason, so put that screw back where it belongs when you are done!

Also, you could use your camera, and take a bunch of BEFORE pictures, to help jog your memory when putting it back together. It sounds daunting, but I'd bet if you are careful and pay attention, and do it all in one sitting, you'll do just fine.

Good luck.

Thank you for your comments but that was my original question, that if anyone knew, had a link, or any info regarding how to open so I could see if I can fix or exchange the CD player myself.

I ended up finding a picture that partially describes the process. I was able to get half of it done earlier but got stuck so had to ask here. In case I meet success following that picture, I will post it here.

Try the DriveAccord forums, I've used them before when I've had issues or questions with my '04 EX.
