Slickdeals Winners Thread

I haven't won anything on the giveaways this holiday yet, either. But I choose not to gripe about newbies getting prizes, because I once was a newbie too. As were all of us at one time or another. And remember, SD didn't have to give us 'veterans' any extra chances at all. They could have just given everyone, newbie and veteran alike, the same exact amount of entries. But because they do value the contributions that we have made to the site, they did give us those extra entries. Whether it's one extra entry or 50, it is an extra entry and thereby does increase your chances of winning. But frankly, I'm just glad that the SD admins and staff are choosing to give us any of these giveaways in the first place. These giveaways were not something they had to do, they chose to do it, for us.

It's a lot of work that they took on themselves when they didn't have to. I can only imagine the hours and days or weeks (maybe even months) that they've spent just setting these up. Then they also have to administer them (fix bugs, field complaints about the free giveaways, etc), contact the winners, and ship out the products (those from SD) at their own expense. But they did so in order to give us, their users, a chance at a nice holiday gift. And I, for one, am grateful that they did so.

To all of the staff at SD, thank you. Not only for the opportunity to possibly win one of the giveways, but most of all for thinking enough of your users to do this for us. All of your hard work and efforts are truly appreciated.

I think its important for people to realize overall how stats work...say you get 75 or 100 entries, and 350,000 entries are present...your odds are still 1 in 1,000's.

1:10 = 10%
1:100 = 1%
1:1000 = .1%

Your odds are much less then 1:1,000 folks. That means majority of people entering even every day over the course of everything you won't win. In defense of newbies winning--be aware of the overall odds. And yes, most days toward the end their are over 350,000 entries.

Thats why experts say the lottery is a lesson in those who are poor at math. To those folks I reply contests are a lesson on how to play the lottery on someone else s dime!

Congrats to all the winners! I'm hoping the title of the winning PM has something in the title such as "Congratulations" since I deleted two the other day that were titled "Deal Alerts" without reading them.
