Here is my thoughts on the TLC show--this is a post I copied from my NON-coupon--NO DEALS blog.

"UGH. NOT good at all. I have been couponing YEARS before this had become a fad/popular thing to do. It is already getting hard enough–I see no need to broadcast this info across the whole nation. The owners of all these couponing blogs/websites always want to broadcast and get as many people as they can to sign up on their blog. I had a coupon friend online and I told her how I think all this “recruiting” will bring extreme couponing to a screeching halt eventually. The difference between when I started couponing to now is already vastly different. Stores have put policies into place making it more difficult for couponers. For the first time ever since couponing P&G has new wording on their coupons “limit 4 like coupons per customer.” It just really blows because there the more people that get into couponing, the more fraud there is too. I have seen blatant examples of blog owners actually tellling people how to de-code the bar codes so they can get around purchasing what the coupon says to purchase. Our grocery stores head cashier told us about this lady who photocopied a coupon and she made a whole stack of them. At RA they posted that only 5/25 coupon is allowed per customer per month because someone supposedly tampered with their coupon. I could give many more examples. And, not too sound like a bitch but all these newbies that have crawled out of the woodwork—they just make more work for me. Yes, I was a newbie once too–BUT, I took it upon myself to READ the threads, and learn the store policies etc etc. It seems all these dumb newbies want everything spoon fed to them–thinking for themselves I guess is too much to ask. They ask the SAME questions over and over and OVER again–the answers are there—they just need to READ.

I’m sure the blog/website owners and those profiting from broadcasting about extreme couponing are happy to have more money coming in. Some already make huge bucks—enough to constantly offer crazy giveaways. But I feel like they are cutting off their nose despite their face. I just don’t think it is very smart to go and advertise about what used to be a secret underground world of extreme couponing. Yep, as you can see–I’m NOT happy about this TLC show."

On top of all this recruiting--I also think couponing will come to an end as we know it because everything is going digital. I found out the Detroit free press has decided NOT to carry red plum inserts anymore outside their tri county delivery area. When I called red plum and the DFP, I was told they want customers to start printing their own coupons instead of getting inserts.

TLC's new couponing GAME SHOW features people trying to get the most products for the littlest amount of money. It is not a couponing-instruction show.

Just remember what ever precedent is set by this show goes out the window with one new coupon policy put in place by your store. The Southeast region for Kroger is already seeing some store coupon policies changed to limit of 2 like coupons over night. I was told this by Kroger Corporate under the discretion of the District Manger's due to "shelf clearing" happening in their stores.

By 7:05 AM all the Rephresh tampons were gone (my store opens at 7). People were fighting over them and yelling at one another. She said every week it gets worse and they're not able to get enough stock to satisfy a few people, let alone a crowd at open.
Seriously? Come on people, pick your battles. Tampons are not worth it!

The way I see it
every life is a pile of good things and bad things.
The good things don't always soften the bad things
but vice versa
the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things
and make them unimportant

OK, all of you Waggers stop panicking .. based on a statement of one person on another board .. and think about it practically. There is NO WAY that they could do an extreme couponing piece at Walgreens .. unless the show plans to significantly deviate from their current format .. or unless they can convince Walgreens to break many of its hard and fast rules. Walgreens does not sell enough depth or breadth of stuff (nor typically have enough stock) to create a thousand dollar basket. Walgreens does not double coupons nor are its sales are not good enough to pare down a thousand dollar basket to 10 bucks. In short, none of the key elements of the typical "Extreme" shopping trip that we have seen so far are possible at Walgreens.

In our small town, we don't have 24-hour stores. Our Wags opens at 9 AM on Sundays and our CVS doesn't open until noon. I drove by the CVS a little before 10 last Sunday and there were already 3 or 4 cars in the parking lot! They weren't employee cars, and I'm pretty sure I recognized a couple of the EC noobs I've seen around town. I know they wait in line for Wags to open, so I guess when they get done there they just go and wait in the parking lot of CVS for 2 hours! EEK! I'd go get breakfast somewhere, at least. Wink

If they cheat like other episodes they could redeem a crap ton of RR from previous transactions all one on big trip. Which would allow them to special order and do a billion transactions to just cash out on one big trip....

...or perhaps they just felt the need to expand to drugstores and will focus on the low oop or MM aspect. I only paid .05 or I "got paid" to go shopping is plenty in line with EC, they will just have to do more filler instead of a long shopping/transaction bit.

Of course, maybe this isn't a bad thing Scratchhead if they show a drugstore. Usually by 9 AM Sunday all my local stores are wiped out so you end up with a RC (in the case of CVS or RA) or empty-handed. Constant rolling would get old for some folks, as would multi-transaction trips. Discourage 'em before they even start. Wink

I've also noticed that certain cashiers who used to roll their eyes at my coupons are now actually nice to me. They wave when I go into the store and make small chit-chat. Maybe I've lost my n00b status Big Grin

Maybe they want to get into the business of "coupon education"? Like, to show people actual transactions?? I don't doubt that they're going to film drugstores but I imagine it's gonna be light on the education (fillers? limits? OOS?????) and heavier on "Look! I got this $10 box of tampons for FREEEEEE!!!!" never mind you had to have $4 in fillers just to use all those Sobe RRs

Ooh! Ooh! I can't believe I forgot to tell you guys this! A cashier at my RA has a relative who works at the Kroger where Joni filmed her segment for EC. Apparently everything was pre-ordered but the EC people and Joni were a giant PITA. They kept wanting to order more and more and delete things off the order 50 times. Apparently they even tried to cancel/add some things after the shipment was already en route to the store and were just generally demanding and rude. In the end the store ended up being chewed out by TLC people. TLC now wants Joni to film again and the store has told them shake head go elsewhere! Rock Whee woot I love that.

Per the RA employee's relative NOTHING on this show is real. Surprise, surprise.

Had a guy behind me last night in publix throw a fit. They only had 1 lane open so there was not much I could do and I only had maybe 20 coupons tops but after spending a while 20 seconds in line he started to curse, threw all his stuff back in the basket really hard, and stormed up to the customer service desk. I just LOLed at him because he was a giant jerk. The moment he got in line also he started to roll his eyes and mutter about coupons. If he wants to pay full price then go right ahead.

Thank goodness not all stores are dumb enough to allow people to repeatedly film them breaking the rules. Maybe we can get Kroger to help Shaws out with that....

I was just coming to post it too. I wonder how Jail'me likes the new Target no stacking policy her antics helped implement.

We warned people what would happen if they went on the show, but their greed got the better of them. Even if they were trying to promote their couponing/deal website/blog (Nate, et al), if couponing is severely restricted because of your dumb ass television whoredom, people won't have a reason to visit. Do any of you fools ever think about that??? Kill couponing or severely wound it, and your kill/ wound you blogs too.

Shaws admitted they let the ECer break the rules after much inducement, then said they were working on ways to enforce them better. Then let her film for a regional news channel doing the same thing...and again said the same thing. Then they changed our coupon policy....vomit
