Here is my thoughts on the TLC show--this is a post I copied from my NON-coupon--NO DEALS blog.

"UGH. NOT good at all. I have been couponing YEARS before this had become a fad/popular thing to do. It is already getting hard enough–I see no need to broadcast this info across the whole nation. The owners of all these couponing blogs/websites always want to broadcast and get as many people as they can to sign up on their blog. I had a coupon friend online and I told her how I think all this “recruiting” will bring extreme couponing to a screeching halt eventually. The difference between when I started couponing to now is already vastly different. Stores have put policies into place making it more difficult for couponers. For the first time ever since couponing P&G has new wording on their coupons “limit 4 like coupons per customer.” It just really blows because there the more people that get into couponing, the more fraud there is too. I have seen blatant examples of blog owners actually tellling people how to de-code the bar codes so they can get around purchasing what the coupon says to purchase. Our grocery stores head cashier told us about this lady who photocopied a coupon and she made a whole stack of them. At RA they posted that only 5/25 coupon is allowed per customer per month because someone supposedly tampered with their coupon. I could give many more examples. And, not too sound like a bitch but all these newbies that have crawled out of the woodwork—they just make more work for me. Yes, I was a newbie once too–BUT, I took it upon myself to READ the threads, and learn the store policies etc etc. It seems all these dumb newbies want everything spoon fed to them–thinking for themselves I guess is too much to ask. They ask the SAME questions over and over and OVER again–the answers are there—they just need to READ.

I’m sure the blog/website owners and those profiting from broadcasting about extreme couponing are happy to have more money coming in. Some already make huge bucks—enough to constantly offer crazy giveaways. But I feel like they are cutting off their nose despite their face. I just don’t think it is very smart to go and advertise about what used to be a secret underground world of extreme couponing. Yep, as you can see–I’m NOT happy about this TLC show."

On top of all this recruiting--I also think couponing will come to an end as we know it because everything is going digital. I found out the Detroit free press has decided NOT to carry red plum inserts anymore outside their tri county delivery area. When I called red plum and the DFP, I was told they want customers to start printing their own coupons instead of getting inserts.

TLC's new couponing GAME SHOW features people trying to get the most products for the littlest amount of money. It is not a couponing-instruction show.

Just remember what ever precedent is set by this show goes out the window with one new coupon policy put in place by your store. The Southeast region for Kroger is already seeing some store coupon policies changed to limit of 2 like coupons over night. I was told this by Kroger Corporate under the discretion of the District Manger's due to "shelf clearing" happening in their stores.

OK, all of you Waggers stop panicking .. based on a statement of one person on another board .. and think about it practically. There is NO WAY that they could do an extreme couponing piece at Walgreens .. unless the show plans to significantly deviate from their current format .. or unless they can convince Walgreens to break many of its hard and fast rules. Walgreens does not sell enough depth or breadth of stuff (nor typically have enough stock) to create a thousand dollar basket. Walgreens does not double coupons nor are its sales are not good enough to pare down a thousand dollar basket to 10 bucks. In short, none of the key elements of the typical "Extreme" shopping trip that we have seen so far are possible at Walgreens.
My first thought was, they just want to keep you on your toes and update your EC Mad Libs. Then I realized that would be awesome, a WBBell EC Recap Mad Lib. Could keep us entertained all summer long! laugh out loud

These people are lucky they are in plastic. Papers up here just randomly shoot them into the dang paper. Even legitimately checking for coupons on a 4 insert weekend takes me forever on each copy of the paper. They do different sides (back or front), different facings (up down), etc.

couponing is the real life application of math your teacher warned you about

Haha, it is nice they're in plastic all ready for them to steal. I wasn't able to get a single paper the last few weeks because they're all gone early in the morning since that paper is only $1 (well, I found a secret place they apparently don't know about yet so I did get them last week). I mean, my husband works for the paper and I can't even get my hands on one most of the time Smilie

I think the crackdown is pushing them into the stores to *gasp* actually buy papers. The inserts are just thrown into the Fort Worth paper here, so I understand what it's like to go for a grab bag of inserts. I prefer the other papers because they're handily in plastic, but it's been a nightmare trying to get my hands on any.

Oh, well. They'll get bored soon, right? Right?!?

Wow, glad I found this thread. I love that I'm not the only one this is affecting. I've been couponing for 25+ years and I'm almost ready to throw in the towel! I've got loads of rainchecks ( that I have a hard time finding the item months later), shelves are wiped out etc etc. The Sat night CVS thing used to be our secret years ago, not any more! A lady in front of me in line Sat night had 4 boxes of Brilliant tampons (free after EB limit 1) she used 4 different cards. What did I get a stinkin raincheck , She also had 20 boxes of tissues. Is it just me , or are some people just downright greedy or are they making a living selling this stuff. I never wanted stores to impose rules, but for the sake of honest couponing people maybe there should be .

This show needs to be boycotted. People at the flea markets and swap meets are cashing in. I am all for business and making money but this show has now caused even area stores to crack down. Our Podunk small town FoodLion here in NC has said 'Because of the show EC we no longer accept IP printables for any free item, and we will not ever again. ' Fraud was cited etc.
It will be interesting to see what happens now. ALready good coupons like 1.00 off one item is now 1.00 off 2 items.

I'm proud to say SD has never been about coupon missuse, smash & grab or fraud ( like returning stuff you got free or cheap) I say let's keep our morals and watch shows like this go to the wayside. I was so frustated , I considered throwing in the towel . ...But I say let the games begin. I'll have my track shoes on, coupons and calculator ready. While they are fumbling with thier huge binder & shopping cart. I'll have my hand held basket and coupons in a paper clip because I don't need a huge binder or shopping cart. I just need my couple freebies & cheepies to make me happy =) WATCH OUT EC people! This seasoned SD'ER has pointy elbows, track shoes and experience and I'm gonna win! LOL

Many of our local stores have not taken freebie (or even bogo) IPs for some time now. Absolutely useless when so many companies still send them out and then I have nowhere to use them...Mad

If you read close enough there are plenty of people on SD who post seldom and would fit right in with the EC crowd. There are plenty who post about selling mass quantities or buying mass quantities. Whether they shelf clear or people in their area get what they want is anyone's guess. SD has many fine members who embrace a polite method of couponing, but plenty who do not as well.

TRUE, But the difference between "our" members and the Extreme couponer is our members do not need a ego boost and go on national tv to brag

nodnodnodnod

I was just going to post something similar. Plenty of SDers are less than honorable around here. Otherwise plenty of the items the Mods have to deal would never be an issue (the "don't post about CWS coupon" notes have been in the Target wiki for years...). And didn't at least one known SDer appear on the show? All of SD is not as innocent as some of us may wish to believe.
