Here is my thoughts on the TLC show--this is a post I copied from my NON-coupon--NO DEALS blog.

"UGH. NOT good at all. I have been couponing YEARS before this had become a fad/popular thing to do. It is already getting hard enough–I see no need to broadcast this info across the whole nation. The owners of all these couponing blogs/websites always want to broadcast and get as many people as they can to sign up on their blog. I had a coupon friend online and I told her how I think all this “recruiting” will bring extreme couponing to a screeching halt eventually. The difference between when I started couponing to now is already vastly different. Stores have put policies into place making it more difficult for couponers. For the first time ever since couponing P&G has new wording on their coupons “limit 4 like coupons per customer.” It just really blows because there the more people that get into couponing, the more fraud there is too. I have seen blatant examples of blog owners actually tellling people how to de-code the bar codes so they can get around purchasing what the coupon says to purchase. Our grocery stores head cashier told us about this lady who photocopied a coupon and she made a whole stack of them. At RA they posted that only 5/25 coupon is allowed per customer per month because someone supposedly tampered with their coupon. I could give many more examples. And, not too sound like a bitch but all these newbies that have crawled out of the woodwork—they just make more work for me. Yes, I was a newbie once too–BUT, I took it upon myself to READ the threads, and learn the store policies etc etc. It seems all these dumb newbies want everything spoon fed to them–thinking for themselves I guess is too much to ask. They ask the SAME questions over and over and OVER again–the answers are there—they just need to READ.

I’m sure the blog/website owners and those profiting from broadcasting about extreme couponing are happy to have more money coming in. Some already make huge bucks—enough to constantly offer crazy giveaways. But I feel like they are cutting off their nose despite their face. I just don’t think it is very smart to go and advertise about what used to be a secret underground world of extreme couponing. Yep, as you can see–I’m NOT happy about this TLC show."

On top of all this recruiting--I also think couponing will come to an end as we know it because everything is going digital. I found out the Detroit free press has decided NOT to carry red plum inserts anymore outside their tri county delivery area. When I called red plum and the DFP, I was told they want customers to start printing their own coupons instead of getting inserts.

TLC's new couponing GAME SHOW features people trying to get the most products for the littlest amount of money. It is not a couponing-instruction show.

Just remember what ever precedent is set by this show goes out the window with one new coupon policy put in place by your store. The Southeast region for Kroger is already seeing some store coupon policies changed to limit of 2 like coupons over night. I was told this by Kroger Corporate under the discretion of the District Manger's due to "shelf clearing" happening in their stores.

SD has never been about coupon missuse, smash & grab or fraud ( like returning stuff you got free or cheap)

While they are fumbling with thier huge binder & shopping cart. I'll have my hand held basket and coupons in a paper clip because I don't need a huge binder or shopping cart
Two points you may have never read the posts but there have been several people who have posted about their exploits that would fit the comment in PURPLE to the T.
Not everyone with a binder and a shopping cart are EC-wannabees. Many of us used binders before they were a EC fashion accessory!!!
Quote from purplefdu View Post :
If you read close enough there are plenty of people on SD who post seldom and would fit right in with the EC crowd. There are plenty who post about selling mass quantities or buying mass quantities. Whether they shelf clear or people in their area get what they want is anyone's guess. SD has many fine members who embrace a polite method of couponing, but plenty who do not as well.
There are even a few that post regularly that would fit right in and give J'ailme a run for her money.

I was just going to post something similar. Plenty of SDers are less than honorable around here. Otherwise plenty of the items the Mods have to deal would never be an issue (the "don't post about CWS coupon" notes have been in the Target wiki for years...). And didn't at least one known SDer appear on the show? All of SD is not as innocent as some of us may wish to believe.

So true. I can think of a few people from the DS forum off the top of my head who only post to brag about their unethical expolits. Of the people I 'know' here they're the minority but they're still out there.

That's the nice thing about being caught red handed, you don't have to worry about someone being as innocent as they claim. she's got methface for sure, and I hope you goes to prison for this. Besides, what is she supposed to say, the one-armed man stole the inserts?

Wow. Not that I've ever grabbed inserts from papers in a coin machine before, but this made me start wondering...

What about freebie newspapers that have coupon inserts? My region has a free Spanish newspaper that has inserts in it, and I'll admit that I sometimes go into Walgreens and slip 2-4 sets of coupon inserts from their stack of these papers. Embarrassment I mean, I certainly don't wipe out the whole stack, but I do actually only grab the coupon inserts and never take the full paper, since I know I wouldn't do anything but recycle it anyway - and I figure maybe someone would actually want the paper for reading. But now this news article makes me really nervous about that... Then again though, is it "stealing" to remove something from an item that's free to begin with? Confused

I mean, if I wanted to grab 2-4 full papers, I'm pretty sure my Walgreens would have no issue with me doing that (especially since I often have other family members with me too). But is slipping just the coupon inserts out of free papers a terrible terrible thing? Ermm What are y'all's thoughts?

Okay, honestly, I kinda think that's worse than taking the whole paper, because that just stinks for the person who grabs a paper not thinking about stolen inserts, then gets home to find they are missing. Less bad than if he/she had paid for the paper, but still inconsiderate to the people who might want it after you.

Thanks for your input - I honestly never really thought about that, since if I were concerned about inserts in a paper, I'd flip through it first to see if they were in there before grabbing it and leaving. The stacks of these papers at my stores are always in disarray anyway - not all of them have inserts in them, sometimes older weeks' papers are mixed in, etc. - so I guess I just figured that anyone picking up a paper would actually look at/through it (otherwise they could very well even be picking up a different week's paper...). I guess I'll start just picking up the full paper - I just hate the thought of the waste of tossing the rest of it straight into the recycling bin though. Frown

I've learned to just focus on what I need/want and ignore the weekly rolling or RR/ECB/UPs and all the cut throat stuff. I have a stockpile, I use it and replace if necessary but I don't sweat missing weeks at a time at the drugstore. Every $1 saved is a $1 more than before and thats what I focus on. Its about saving, not who has the most toys or highest savings. hug

I'd rather grab the full paper than rely on some employees to recycle and not trash them personally....they also make a decent to good mulch for your garden, you can compact them to make blocks to burn as fuel, etc. Wink

My trainee was almost in tears tonight when I spoke with her.

I've posted a few times about her trouble with papers (no Sunday delivery now because someone is following the paper guy and picking them up, ONE location that sells the Sunday paper and the same woman each week buys all 30 copies of the paper) and she's disheartened... no products on the shelves at Publix, no products on the shelves at CVS and Wags. Rain checks don't put food on the table, particularly if they expire before there are products on the shelves (Publix).

I've shared my bundles in the past with her, but now, I get one bundle of 12 to share between me and the SIL (who I make sure gets 8), so I pulled out 2 sets for her tomorrow (for her husband to take home), but I think she's ready to throw in the towel.

BTW, our Smartsource freebie in the paper is no more. Licensing agreement ran out and to my knowledge, HSV isn't even printing The Rocket any more.

I feel her pain. People are always "just go to another store" but its not always possible to drive 30mins, and hope they have stock. There is no reasonable explanation why people can't use some restraint, stores can't limit people to reasonable quantities and order sufficient stock and we all can't get enough for our families. If you want to sleep in past the crack of dawn on Sunday or whatever day a sales flyer starts you just have to cuddle your rainchecks or do without. And if your stores double a pricematch at Target or Walmart won't even do you much good.

And thats after you (hopefully) find a couple copies of the paper with all the proper inserts and maybe even the good coupons, at 1.75-2.00 each or more, cause the $1 and $1.50 copies at Walmart are out like they were a black friday sale.

I'd offer to mail her inserts for cost if I thought I could find enough. But I've had weeks where all I got was the leftovers from DH's office buildings.

It's as if you are all reading my mind!

I have posted over and over on these threads to shuddup about all the smash and grabbing and resell. Mad What's really ironic is that the ONE person who stands out as a smash and grabber (to me) on the RA/WAGs threads is one of the people shouting the loudest on FB against J'Aime. It's truly bizarre and I'm not shuri he/she gets the irony!

I've only been couponing for a bit over 8 years but the drastic changes that have occurred over the last year is so disheartening. Almost to the point where I'm ready to hang it up. Frown
Many people resell as when you roll ECB RR abs UPs you end up with stuff you don't need and want. They need money for gas. papers. coupons, to do it all over again. They help there family and others (I live in a state with 10% unemployment) this does not make them smash and grabbers unless they clear shelfs. Some people live in areas where there is plenty of stock or they have it ordered so they are always leaving plenty for others and the person that I have read who post about Jaime (jailme) is posting about illegal use of coupons not her smashing and grabbing.

I'm not fighting shortage, but both papers here are $2. Period, no discounts anywhere. The paper available in my town has crappy inserts too....RP usually has 4-5 coupons, never the good ones.

To get the decent paper, I have to travel 25 miles to the next town, and still pay $2 per paper.
