Here is my thoughts on the TLC show--this is a post I copied from my NON-coupon--NO DEALS blog.

"UGH. NOT good at all. I have been couponing YEARS before this had become a fad/popular thing to do. It is already getting hard enough–I see no need to broadcast this info across the whole nation. The owners of all these couponing blogs/websites always want to broadcast and get as many people as they can to sign up on their blog. I had a coupon friend online and I told her how I think all this “recruiting” will bring extreme couponing to a screeching halt eventually. The difference between when I started couponing to now is already vastly different. Stores have put policies into place making it more difficult for couponers. For the first time ever since couponing P&G has new wording on their coupons “limit 4 like coupons per customer.” It just really blows because there the more people that get into couponing, the more fraud there is too. I have seen blatant examples of blog owners actually tellling people how to de-code the bar codes so they can get around purchasing what the coupon says to purchase. Our grocery stores head cashier told us about this lady who photocopied a coupon and she made a whole stack of them. At RA they posted that only 5/25 coupon is allowed per customer per month because someone supposedly tampered with their coupon. I could give many more examples. And, not too sound like a bitch but all these newbies that have crawled out of the woodwork—they just make more work for me. Yes, I was a newbie once too–BUT, I took it upon myself to READ the threads, and learn the store policies etc etc. It seems all these dumb newbies want everything spoon fed to them–thinking for themselves I guess is too much to ask. They ask the SAME questions over and over and OVER again–the answers are there—they just need to READ.

I’m sure the blog/website owners and those profiting from broadcasting about extreme couponing are happy to have more money coming in. Some already make huge bucks—enough to constantly offer crazy giveaways. But I feel like they are cutting off their nose despite their face. I just don’t think it is very smart to go and advertise about what used to be a secret underground world of extreme couponing. Yep, as you can see–I’m NOT happy about this TLC show."

On top of all this recruiting--I also think couponing will come to an end as we know it because everything is going digital. I found out the Detroit free press has decided NOT to carry red plum inserts anymore outside their tri county delivery area. When I called red plum and the DFP, I was told they want customers to start printing their own coupons instead of getting inserts.

TLC's new couponing GAME SHOW features people trying to get the most products for the littlest amount of money. It is not a couponing-instruction show.

Just remember what ever precedent is set by this show goes out the window with one new coupon policy put in place by your store. The Southeast region for Kroger is already seeing some store coupon policies changed to limit of 2 like coupons over night. I was told this by Kroger Corporate under the discretion of the District Manger's due to "shelf clearing" happening in their stores.

Many people resell as when you roll ECB RR abs UPs you end up with stuff you don't need and want. They need money for gas. papers. coupons, to do it all over again. They help there family and others (I live in a state with 10% unemployment) this does not make them smash and grabbers unless they clear shelfs. Some people live in areas where there is plenty of stock or they have it ordered so they are always leaving plenty for others and the person that I have read who post about Jaime (jailme) is posting about illegal use of coupons not her smashing and grabbing.
I buy for myself and resell because it's what I HAVE to do. I have ZERO income without it, so I don't apologize. However, I manage to do it by building my stockpile over the winter, not wiping the shelves out, taking all the newspapers, or holding up the line with transactions that will blow up the registers. It is possible to coupon and accumulate a lot of stuff without being a rude, obnoxious shelf clearer.

Trust me, I am so burned out at this point, and so tired of fighting the up hill battle with all the new insert stealers and S&Gers, that I'd pretty much hang it up if I could. But I can't afford to; I have to keep going. This is why the TLC show and the @ssholes who appear on it bother me so much. They are affecting the only way I have to survive. Frown

Our unemployment rate was 18% in April for the nearest City to us. Our County was at 13.7%. Sales tax in the City is 9% and 8.75% for the County (till Friday).

I understand about getting a little extra for other family members. I try to get razors and body wash for my brother, he's on unemployment. This EC show just make honest couoners look bad . I get 4 papers a week , and that seems to be plenty for a family of 4 and then some. I have been going to more out of the way stores and Family Dollar & Dollar General .

I now check my paper when I buy one or more from my area Stop n Shop (one of those grab and go gas stations) because our area Newspaper stands are cleared out by 9 am. And my older butt doesn't get out that early on Sunday morning. There are now notices on the Newstands to 'please report anyone stealing papers etc. from this stand'. My area Stop n Shop usually has Sunday papers left over on Monday. I am widow and my son is in Iraq so I only have to take care of me. I do help my baby sister and her family they are struggling with a young 5 yr old, my BIL is disabled due to being hit by a drunk driver, he has been reconstructed several times, and my sister was laid off last year and does some part time work. I used to help a lot more people but frankly I am getting older and don't have the energy I have.
Bottom line ...I use coupons to help out, pay for my papers, and when people steal the coupons from a paper it is still STEALING and theives are theives to me. If you are going to take them take the paper so other's won't buy a paper for coupons and waste their money.
I am not the 'paper police', I just pay for what I get...and with SD I pay a WHOLE LOT LESS!!! lol

I don't post too often, but I have been couponing for a few years now and this stupid show is messing it up!
I hate it when the cashier at Kroger asks if I've seen that coupon show and if that's what I'm trying to do. I smile and say Yes, I've seen the show and No dear, those people are crazy.
At first I was couponing for the rush of getting stuff so cheap or even free and then finding a home for it. Now it's about getting what I need and know my family will use and finding it for as cheap as I can.
I just hope that show goes away and SOON so that the regulars can get back to doing their thang and flying under the radar.
Grrr TLC, grrr.

Wow, I never knew they could actually arrest people for this! Good riddance I suppose, although it is kind of sad if she's innocent as she says.
Awesome. Now I know where to move and raise the kiddies. Anywhere that the cops, prosecutors, and courts have the time and resources - especially in this economy! - to take a case like this must not have much else going on worth pursuing (robberies, murders, assaults, drugs, gangs, ect...).

Wow EEK! that is a lot of tax I thought ours was bad as they tax coupons but at 6% and no tax on food. Do you have to pay that even when you use coupons or just on your total after coupons? My small town is also way over the state average, so its easy to understand why more and more people are forced to coupon that never would, I hate the show too as it makes it hard on my stores as they have more misuse, and rude people to deal with but we have very few shelf cleaners at most stores because they have only 4 or less to start with so no shelf's to clean, I just get RC and hope for the best.

I understand your point but this person was still (allegedly) stealing. Last time I checked that was a crime too. IMO going in and stealing all the newspapers from a box after paying for one is no different than taking a bag into Walgreens and sweeping all the razors from a shelf into your bag and then leaving without paying.

Theft is theft.

I agree stealing is stealing, and I understand examples need to be made to try and scare the rest of them straight. In my area, 100s of teachers are being let go from each school district, police and fire departments are disbanding and joining regional departments or allowing state police coverage, there's debates about selling off major county and state assets, reducing hours at courthouses, closing libraries, etc.. etc.. The cost of this prosecution (police, corrections, and paperwork payroll hours, prosecutor's and possible public defender's fees, court fees and payroll of all court officers, potentially paying jury members if it goes that far, etc...etc..) probably exceeds the value of the items stolen (heck, probably exceeds the value of all the coupons she stole) by a significant margin, and with all the belt-tightening it seems there are better uses for such limited funds, that's all. Seems like a slap of the cuffs, sit in the back of the car for 30 minutes, and let her go with a warning would probably get her to stop without actually having to press charges. Don't know all the details, of course, but that seems much more cost effective solution to stop the problem unless they're trying to make an example out of her...

Also, doesn't everyone just go into the drugstores, swipe the razors and walkout without paying? Patience + drug store deals + coupons = never actually pay for them laugh out loud

Maybe the paper offered to pay for the sting? A newsstand of 20 papers at $2 each if people don't buy them is $40. Multiply by the number in the town and it ads up quick, week after week, all over the area.

We don't have all the information, and by the example of cost not equaling results all school officers should be put on better details as well. Cause heaven knows they aren't preventing students from being obnoxious degenerates in alot of towns....

Our local media general group just had their 'coupon blogger' post about how EC may have killed it...

I definitely have noticed less great matchups at Publix. However, some of it I'm sure has to deal with the summer...doesn't seem like I remember phenomenal deals last summer.

went to my Wag today and did one transaction with a good BA. I had a few carefree items and had coupons for them. The new scanner beeped at carefree coupon with the message "no item sold for this coupon"! OK, I then folded the coupon and then it worked fine. However , the BA did say that she was wondering the register now could not let her take so many coupons in one transaction. I was like what??EEK! She said that they are working on a new register to stop coupon fraud. She told me she read on the website like couponcrazy.com or something like that and people over there were doing coupon fraud! So now the store is very careful with that. I tried to use IVC carefree and it did not work. She implied something like the corporate is trying to stop overage. I was kinda embarrassed at this point because that was what I was trying to do with carefree. She said that she could not do anything at this point because now the store keeps track of all manually entered coupons! So we decided to void the whole transaction. The manager came over to do that and the BA had to show her all my coupons before she could gave them back to me! Wow, this BA was really good before. When the coupons beeped before, she would do it manually after checking if the right coupons were used. No more. And this store was pretty good with coupons. No more. This show sucks so bad.

Great quote from the "Supermarket Guru": Putting these manic shoppers up as role models for the average person, who has a full-time job, cooks, and takes care of their families, is wrong. If we do want to highlight how to save money on groceries can we please do it in a way that empowers with realistic tips that won't take 30 to 50 hours a week of one's life?

I heartily agree.
