Thread Details

For anyone looking to use their Best Buy gift cards to purchase Amazon goods, I just found that you can buy kindle-labeled Amazon gift cards at B&M Best Buy stores. I rarely find any good deals at Best Buy but BB gift cards are still a common gift to receive so I assume some fellow SDers will be in the same boat this holiday.

Going through plasticjungle you'd normally pay $8 commission on $100 exchange, plus you have to send in your card and wait for the exchange by mail. Not a "hot deal" but didn't know where else to post this where shoppers could make use of the info.

Only catch is that the cards are only available in $50 increments, oh and I haven't actually tested the gift cards to make sure you can buy anything at Amazon.

I know there are alot of people that were able to get $20 Best Buy Reward Zone certificates. Just to let everyone know, you can use Best Buy Reward Zone gift certificates to purchase Amazon Kindle gift cards, which can be used to buy any item on Amazon.com I bought a $25 Amazon Kindle gift card with my $20 reward points this morning at Best Buy, and already applied the $25 GC to my Amazon account, and purchased a couple DVDs. Purchasing the DVDs from Amazon instead of Best Buy saved me $24. Thats just an example how much of a rip off Best Buy is. Im sure this will help alot of people.

Newsflash: December 26, 2011

Best Buy reported this morning that the #1 selling item in their stores for 2011 was Amazon gift cards.

The company also announced that they are beginning liquidation for all stores in the company.

Its because Amazon has NO physical locations to maintain, hence why ANY online retailer will beat out the price of any retailer with B&M stores. Shows how much YOU know about business. At this point, everyone that had a expiration date of yesterday, this information is a bit late Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

It would be great if you could buy an Amazon gift card and then use it to buy a Best Buy gift card, and then use that gift card to buy an Amazon gift card, and keep going back and forth until there are no more trees left in the universe.

yeah eventhough I dont buy much at bestbuy unless its a super deal I am pretty sure that the option to walkin and play with the products is more important to people who are impulse buyers. However I have seen BestBuy sales guys sell laptops to old people saying it will be a great gift n all.

It's also because Best Buy has become an insanely overpriced, customer unfriendly, unpleasant place in which to shop. They were NOT always like this. They used to be a great place to shop and had very good prices and sales. Now, they've just become greedy, and since Circuit City closed, an even lousier company. Circuit City's demise must've made the executives think that they were free to charge and do whatever they wanted.

I'm so glad it's finally starting to blow up in their faces.

I agree! when I had a choice b/w Best Buy & Circuit City, I always chose BB as they had better deals and prices and really good CS. After CC closed, they went down in every possible way. The only time I buy at BB is during BF or for Apple products (macbooks, ipads).

Either way, am a silver premier member with over 12k points. Time to cash in to Amazon GCs which give you the best bang for best buy bucks Smilie

I agree, lack of competition has made Best Buy go down a lot, hence their stock performance and profit forecast this year missing the mark on both occasions. There are still some deals to be had and it is good for most to have a place to check out electronics before buying from an online retailer. But even with competition, they could never compete with online retailers in price, but because they have physical stores to manage while places like Amazon and US Appliance does not. But US App doesn't have a great return policy on TVs as BB does. Amazon has a good policy, just takes a bit of time to schedule things, pick up, get the new one, etc. Overall, pros and cons to these stores.

I know for some, who recently bought the Samsung Plasma c8000, they got a TV that buzzs and the definitely will not be allowed to be returned to US appliance, so they are stuck with an annoyance and out $2k where as with BB, you could do an exchange get your money back, etc. But BB is $400 more.

Overall, shop at BB when you know there is a good deal, otherwise, let their chips fall where it may and let the slickdeals keep rolling in Big Grin

While online stores not having to pay taxes gives them an advantage over the B&M stores, that is not the reason why Amazon is thriving! If that was the only reason then all the other online retailers (newegg, Buy, etc) would have thrived as well. Amazon's business model is hard to understand but its proven over time that it works and it works wonderfully well. total customer satisfaction is what got them here and not tax break.

Hmmm, interesting, thanks for the tip. Cashing in banked points to buy GC to use on Amazon, never thought of that. So you have $240 to cash in on Amazon GC, nice haul.
