Thread Details

I searched through the threads and didn't really find what I was looking for. My 10 year old got the Xbox 360 and Kinect for Christmas. I am looking for some age appropriate games for him. Any suggestions? He received Madden 2011, NCAA 2011 and Kinect Dance Central. Also regarding Xbox live....how do I set it up so he can play against others but keep the creeps away. I am video game challenged and this is our first real system (we own a WiiLMAO). I appreciate any advice...thanks!

as for keeping creeps away. no clue. sometimes the 10 year olds are the most annoying gamers b/c they act tough and swear a ton.

I'm not sure how competent 10 year olds are (not to be taken negatively), but he won't have a problem navigating the menus for the Kinect games, will he? A lot of my friends were confused the first time they played dance central and Kinect sports on my 360 so I had to navigate the menus a lot for them to set the games up for awhile.

As for Live, there really is no way to keep them away from potential "creeps" the first time around. However, there is an option to "not run into this person again" in their profiles, although I can imagine doing that all the time would definitely be tedious. Because of this, either I'd wait on getting Live until he hits maybe 13-14 years old. Judging from the fact that the majority of games could be for Kinect though, you won't really need Live for it (or at least I didn't go on Live when I played with my Kinect games)

The Lego games (Batman, Star Wars, Indiana Jones) are always a safe bet for kids that age. Heck, I enjoy them too. Another good kids game is Banjo and Kazooie: nuts and bolts.

And yeah there's really no way to keep creeps away on Xbox Live. You'd just have to monitor them I guess.

Has some helpful tips for parents and XBL. Honestly to keep the creeps away you should set it up where he can only chat with "FRIENDS" via MIC and only get messages and invites from them as well. Or just block out MIC communication all together. Bc one thing that happens on any FPS, first person shooter game, is cussing an foul language. If he plays Madden or NCAA then not so much, only one person to chat with most of the time. Not like a FPS where you have 8-16 people in a room.
