Problems scanning Q's at SCO? First posted here:

Credit for this goes to Skibum - On the SCO at Safeway if your coupon doesnt scan you can manually input the numbers using the enter PLU function. Basically its the option where you would enter produce.

A coupon database is available at www.Families.com once you've registered there. Good resource for checking availability & location of coupons for specific items you're interested in. (Thx to errickson for the info!) Another great one is available at www.coupontom.com [http]. And the nice thing here, you don't have to register!

This thread has good info on what coupons are available, what insert they were in and the date.

Also keep in mind the Entertainment Book typically has money saving coupons for Safeway listed quarterly. And, if your store doesn't object, these coupons sometimes do not beep based on dates.

Coupon use at Safeway
Safeway usually issues store specific coupons via various formats...newspaper ads, mailers & emails. You can sign up for emails on their website.

Their coupons tend to scan fine at any store within their brand, even if the stores are not in the same area. For example, Tom Thumb coupons work at Randall's, and vice versa.

Their coupons also tend to scan fine at any store within their brand, even if the coupon says it's good only at a certain store. The best example of these are the ones issued when a store is remodeling or for a grand opening.

Usually, their coupons scan fine when you are using two different types of their coupons on one product. For example, $1 off Tide from a newspaper ad and $2 off Tide from some other source. This only works when the two coupons are obviously different (check the codes). I am not sure if it would work if you were only buying one item and trying to use two store coupons. I've never had a reason to test that.

Their coupons can be used in conjunction with manufacturers coupons, even if that causes an overage, although they won't pay you to take products out of the store! laugh out loud

Some stores don't accept internet printable coupons, there is a corporate policy on what coupons they take, and some stores follow this policy to the nth degree. If you get to one of these stores, try the store down the street, it is probably much more coupon friendly.

Manufacturer coupons for free or bogo items tend to attempt to give you credit for the price of the item without the card discount, but they usually beep for the cashier to approve the coupon.

Self Checkout lanes (SCOs) are a great way to get out of the store quickly. You can use your coupons except all BOGO, FREE and coupons over $3.00 (may be $2) require cashier intervention. This can be a hassle if you have very many of these type of coupons. You will also have trouble if you're buying a clearanced product that has the % off tag that has to be scanned.

Stores in different areas have different promotional deals regarding the doubling and/or tripling of coupons. If you see someone commenting on it here, you need to check what your local store does.

And while coupons may scan fine, the cashier you're dealing with can make any of the above YMMV. Smilie

Does anyone know if the quaker yogurt bars are included in the $5.00 friday deal? Both me and the kiddos love these and it seems like a decent price

Follow-up

So yes the Quaker yogurt bars are included.
I got 6 for $10 - (3) $1/2 = 6 for $7 = $1.16 per package or 23 cents per bar.

Additionally, if you are near the Safeway in Des Moines (21401 Pacific Highway South)
The Kleenex is still marked and ringing up @ $0.99... I picked up 10 of them for $5
Lots still on the shelf!!

Let me know if the Kleenex is $.99 at your store; my hubby picked up 9 boxes last night, tag showed thru the 22nd.. but - like all of the great deals we do, it seems like Safeway always finds out and pulls the price early.

Now our Kleenex is back at regular price. Mad

I went yesterday about 11 am and the Kleenex were 1.99 and that is how they rang up. I was wondering where I had gone wrong. The 50 cent did not come off at all! Not even on one. The checker I had though was so friendly and nice about it she took it all off manually.EEK!worship

The deal was great on Thursday before Safeway started messing with it - because it worked flaw free, even for my non-couponing hubby... many more of us.

Some (few few) stores here have the .99 tags up, several said their store took the .99 price down, 2 people said they caught the tags still up, so they did it, but I just think Safeway caught on to a great deal, and pulled the price Friday morning.

Is anyone else having trouble with the iphone app? It keeps saying I have no deals attached to my card. I tried to close and open the program and it's giving me the same message. Frustrating. I wish there was a way to clear app "cookies" on an iphone, but I don't think there is without reinstalling.

The $5 Friday NY Strip Steak EVP runs through Sunday with the J4U extension. If you have the J4U personalized deal for $5 off $20 Rancher's Reserve, you can buy a 4 lb. EVP for $15. This deal shows up every two months or so. Use your J4U extension to shop on Saturday or Sunday. If you shop on Friday, the only available cuts will be leftovers which are ugly and lean. Your Safeway likely has two sections for their steak cuts; the first is the aisle bin and the second is the wall shelving. Always check both sections. The bin often has very meager leftovers while the shelving is more likely to have nicely marbled cuts.

There's a Safeway coupon for Campbell's 100% Natural soups @ 5 for $5. Coupons.com has a manufacturer's coupon @ $0.75 for 2 which doubles to $1.50. You can use two $0.75 coupons which reduces your total to $2.00 for 5 cans.

There's also a Safeway coupon for Hefty one-zip storage bags @ $1.49 per box (13-22 ct). The Sunday insert often has a manufacturer's coupon @ $1.00 for 2 which reduces your total to $0.99 per box.

If you're a fan of Dr. Pepper, there's a one-time coupon for 2-liters @ 0.49 cents each for an apparently unlimited amount. Your mileage depends on how much you like Dr. Pepper and how many bottles you're willing to stock, but soda rarely goes much lower in price than this (excepting B2G3 Coke deals with MCR coupons).

Finally, Minneola Tangelos (Honeybells) are in season. They peak during January and they're delicious. Safeway's price ($1 ea.) is very reasonable so consider buying a few if you have the J4U personalized produce deal ($3 off $10 or $15).

I don't know if this info would be helpful to anyone but I figured out how to find your actual club card number in a just4u account (helpful if you need it for online coupon sites and you've long lost your card and only go by your phone number).

Right click on the mouse
--->Inspect Element
--->Resources
--->Cookies
---->wwwsafewaycom
---->scroll down and you'll see "J4U_CLUBCARD_NUM"

Note: club card number *won't* appear until you click personalized savings on the website.
