Addressing reporters for the first time since his return, Christie praised state workers for their response to the blizzard, saying, "I would give the folks in New Jersey state government and the county government an A for the effort we put in," adding, "We probably get a B for results."

Christie was criticized for his absence, especially as the state's lieutenant governor Kim Guadagno was also out of state at the same time, vacationing with her ailing father in Mexico. Democratic Senate President Stephen Sweeney (D-Gloucester) served as the acting governor for five days until Christie returned Friday.

During Friday's press conference, Christie praised Sweeney for his work at the helm.

Christie said despite negative headlines, he would not have changed his decision, noting that he had promised his children the trip and, as he was flying commercial, it would have been difficult for him to return to the state earlier anyway.

So his basic excuse for leaving the WHOLE state without a governor or lieutenant governor, was because his kids were more important...... shake head

At 10 weeks, I could move my arms and legs. I'm sure glad my Mom did not believe I was just a fetus or feel that she was just an incubator.

I'm sure he could of done possibly the same in or out state.... But he left the state without a governor or acting governor at the SAME time, which is absolutly irresponsible...

There is a reason for a govenor and a lieutenant governor, and that at least one remain in the state at all times

Both guys are from the same state, so how does one who actually take the job they fought so hard to get... that ONLY ONE truly understand the meaning of respect, integrity, responsiblity, and the true meaning of a elected public servant position...

Seems that selfish fatty got lots to learn from real public officials who cares and take pride about the jobs they were elected to... nod

What is it that you don't understand from this:

He left the state without a governor or acting governor at the SAME time

and

There is a reason for a govenor and a lieutenant (acting) governor, and that at least one remain in the state at all times

You admitted there was nothing he could have done in state that he could't have done out of state, so why does he need to be there? This is an age of constant mobile communication. Any information he needed to gather or orders he needed to give could have been easily done from a different state. So what is the reason that he actually needs to be within the boundaries of the state?

They didn't have one before that. Does that mean that in 2009 the govenor wasn't allowed to leave the state at all? And what about the 7 states that don't have lieutenant govenors? Are the govenors of those states required to stay within the boundaries of the state for their entire term?
