Applied for a Discover More with $150 bonus

I've never dealt with Discover but this seems to me like they couldn't verify your address or something similar, so it will take them a few days to be certain that you are you (I had a similar sounding email from a recent AMEX app). You could always call them and ask what's up.

Would it hurt my chances if I called on the same day I applied?

I wouldn't think so. IMO if you speak to a decision-maker you can only help your chances b/c if necessary you can tell them why you need/want their card.

same thing happened to me recently. I got that message, but in the next 12 hours I got an email from Discover stating I had been approved.

Thanks. I took your advice and called their customer service just a few minutes ago. They went ahead and approved my application (even though I submitted it today).

They asked for my college major, and immediately after that allocated a $2500 credit line to my account.

This also means I just got a cool $150 for free (well, I need to spend $799 first within the next 3 months, which should be extremely easy with college expenses and all. lol).

Where'd you find that $150 bonus offer? I have been looking around but only see $100.

1) Go to Discovercard.com
2) Click "Browse All Discover Cards", then "Build my card", then "Get Started"
3) On the questionnaire select: "I have excellent credit" and "I plan to always pay off my balance each month" and "See all available offers"
4) Click "Continue" and scroll down to the bottom of the next page. You should see the feature customization tool.
5) Move ONLY the bonus rewards handle up. If you leave all other handles alone, you should be able to see the "$150 bonus for spending $799 in your first 3 months" option. See attached pic.

But I didn't use this method. On the third step above I asked them to show my "pre-approved offers" instead of "all offers". It asked for my name and social and the next page interestingly listed ALL Discover More cards as pre-approved. I opted for the "free $150 for spending $799" offer, since it seemed like the best option.

I applied and I got the same message about 5-7 days or whatnot. When you called after applying, what did you specifically tell them? I don't feel like waiting 5-7 days for a decision.

I called the main customer service, and simply told them I wanted to check the status of my application. Then they transferred my call to another department (the "decision makers").

When the decision maker asked how can he help me today, I told him that "my application is being processed and wanted to check if there is anything else I can do". He looked at my application and noticed that there was a message about "missing information". At this point he asks my college major (for some reason, the online application never asked for my major). I told him my major, and after a few seconds he tells me "Congratulations, you've been approved, etc etc".

Thanks a lot, once again! You know what's weird? I applied last night and it gave me that 5-7 day message but when I tried to check my application status it said it could not find anything under my SS# so I called them and they said the same thing. So I applied again and it went through the steps today that it didn't do yesterday with the "please wait 60 seconds while we process your account" which didn't show up last night so there might have been a problem with their system last night.

Anyway, I got approved right away and I had to call to verify my identity and everything worked out. Thanks!
