Free Federal tax filing options
This post is intended to be a companion to the information I posted on free filing of state tax returns at 24 States. I posted the information there, but so that the info doesn't get lost, I'm also doing posting a separate new thread on Fed returns.
The link below provides very basic, online filing and preparation for those with income of $58,000 or less. It's not for everybody, but if your returns are simple and your income falls under the limit, hey, save yourself a few bucks...
THIS SITE DOES NOT GO ACTIVE UNTIL JANUARY 14.
If your income is above $58,000, you can still access and complete your forms, but it won't help you prepare your return (just basic "math").
Free-file link for free filing of FEDERAL taxes [irs.gov], goes active January 14: two flavors
Traditional Free File - I want tax software with step-by-step help.
Free File Fillable Forms - I want to fill in the tax forms and file them online without tax software.
