Hey, just completed a trip to Disney World. I wouldn't say we went to extremes to save money, but there were a lot of people forking out a lot more cash that I was needlessly. This is a good article on saving money in Disneyworld, Orlando [hoteldealsrevealed.com].

A few nuggets in there.

My biggest tip: don't stay or eat in the parks. Stay off site and bring your own food with you!!!

Hi Everyone! We are taking our 8 year old son to Walt Disney World in July. This is our first trip! Has anyone stayed at the Animal Kinddom Lodge? We are sooooo excited. What restaurants does everyone recommend using a dining plan?

Thanks so much!

Jerswife, Animal Kingdom Lodge is one of our favorites. Disbaords.com is a great resource for all things disney. They have great information & very friendly message boards.

Have fun!

The conventional advice is to stay offsite to save money, but still shop around to be sure. During off-peak times Disney is competitive. I am going in January and staying onsite; paying $96/nt weekend and $76/nt weekday. Cheaper than the Best Western and other downtown disney-area hotels. Plus I save even more because I'm paying for it with Disney gift cards that I bought at a discount.

Where are you staying for those kind of rates? The cheapest I can find onsite is World of Animation for like $300 a night. VRBO has much more competitive rates - I"m looking at the off season in October - and I have 3 small kids and maybe 2 grandparents in our party. A full kitchen is sounding pretty attractive!

If money wasn't a problem (we can all dream!) which of the Disneyland Hotels would you recommend?

I would stay off site in a home with a pool.

can anyone comment on staying at the Contemporary (the tower rooms) - we have a 2BR 2BA room reserved for late September. Has anyone stayed there to give me ideas what floor, room # to request?

What is the 1 thing at Disney that you would say "do not miss "
We love hoop dee do review. After that I would say castle dining if you have girls. I haven't stayed at the towers but have that's GREAT things!

Disney releases free dining for certain dates in the fall. You might want to look up the dates for 2013 and book a condo as a back up. If they release free dining, it's much more fun (and easier) to eat in the parks, etc. We actually enjoy the Disney Dining, though we rarely eat in the parks unless we are staying on-site with the dining plan.

We're going in March and booked the Wyndham Bonnet Creek Resort [wyndhambonnetcreek.com] for 4 nights. Anyone have any experience with this place?
