Home Depot (and Lowe's) charge you every single small thing to make up the "whole house" flat rate. Unless you have totally empty house without stairs and you pull up and dispose the existing carpets, you end up paying more with Home Depot.

Isn't Lowes offering free installation on Stainmaster carpet right now until the 24th?

I think this exciting carpet deal crashed their site.

i was going to get carpeting last year and a pergo floor in the dining room. 12 steps also. It was over $3,000. And I have a tiny house. Forget it! Plus I already had the carpet out of the living room that I took out myself!

If you get FULL quotes from a variety of sources, you'll find the cheap install rate was made up elsewhere.

Home Depot and Lowes also hire whoever they can get to work cheaply to do the installs and thats the case with stuff besides carpet. They're taking a cut of the deal, so that means the contractor has to be working for less.

I tried out Lowes once because they had a particular carpet closeout and had just enough to do one of my rentals, and the total price was good. It took six weeks to get the guy to come out and do the install, because he turned out to be a one man shop that had just started installing carpet and he was backed up.

I've had much better experiences going with a local carpet business. They have full time employees with plenty of experience, and the price you'll end up paying is about the same, maybe better, than the big box outfits.

I got a quote from them for $1200 for my attic. I wish I had the tools to do it myself. I think the $37 install is scam because you pay for the install one way or another.
