HELP! Canon Pixma $400 rebate rejected for "peeling"
Just got a rebate rejection letter yesterday. They claim the UPC was "peeled rather than cut" for the printer. I remember using a carpet knife to remove it, but I don't think I cut all the way through the box. I'll call first thing Monday and begin the process of fighting. Anybody have any tips?If it doesn't go smoothly, I'm trying to figure out what actions I can reasonably take. Here's what I've come up with - any other suggestions? 1. Canon customer care 2. Amazon customer care 3. Credit card dispute 4. Secretary of State complaints in applicable states 5. BBB 6. Complaint websites 7. Social media 8. Canon executive phone/email 9. Mail fraud complaint 10. ? Any help from you experienced folks would be greatly appreciated! Last edited by harmonist34; 01-17-2011 at 05:30 AM.. |

I got the same letter today from Canon. It sucks, I gave Canon a call , they will contact me later regrading this matter. It is totally absurd and a scam since I have cut the box for the UPC code

I still haven't been able to get through to the rebate center. Going to call them tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. when they open to begin disputing. Also went ahead and called Canon at 1-800-828-4040 and began a rebate dispute ticket with them. They're supposed to get back to me in 24-48 hrs.

Looks like many people are caught in the trap and I'm one of the victims. I just spoke with someone (who claimed to be THE supervisor). I said I've trashed everything from the printer and she told me to send in a copy of the first page of the manual from the CD (in addition to a copy of the first page of the camera manual, which I have). They will send me a letter in a week and I'll need to send the supporting materials along with that letter. I've found the manuals on line, but I'm not sure if they are the same as they appear on the CD. It would be of great help if someone can scan the cover page of the physical manual and/or the cover page of the CD manual. I'm trying to reach my printer buyer too. Hopefully he'll be helpful.
This is really a big scam. I've always peeled off UPC bar codes and never had any problem. They said the reason for the requirement is to prevent buyers from returning the product. But that's the participating merchant's problem - they have every reason to refuse returns without the UPC. |

They gave me this email address to send the front of the printer manual and camera manual:

All,
I did speak just now with a rep in Canon, and she approved the rebate without asking for any documents to be sent. I did mention that I have a cut a hole in my printer box and sent it to them.
