I checked my status and it said "Program Violation". I was "guilty" of peeling after cutting the box so I figured that was the problem. I called 1-866-668-9861 and gave them my reference number. They told me that my rebate was denied in error and said they would proceed with processing... didnt need to send anything in.
Just checked my status and it says "Audit Complete" this was about 5 minutes after my phone call. |

Glad to hear we're meeting with some success! I spent 30+ minutes this morning starting right at 8 a.m. to get through to the call center. I got the same "how do we know you cut this off of the box, we don't have a video..." crap and the extra step of sending a copy of the manual in with the serial number to get the rebate. The woman on the phone apparently didn't like my reply - "Hey, if you guys are going to change the terms of the rebate on the fly, can I change it too and get $500 instead of $400?"
I had actually called Canon customer support separately on Monday and got an escalation ticket started with their rebate escalation group. They called me back about 11 a.m. today and I had a nice long conversation with a very helpful rep. She indicated that she was goign to try to push through the rebate on my behalf. I was very clear on what damage this apparent attempt at rebate fraud was potentially going to have on the Canon brand, even though it may be tied to a specific rebate center's clumsy handling. The rep indicated that she'd raised my concerns with higher ups and some things were in process. Sounds like we got to critical mass and may have actually accomplished something here... Still don't have any indication that my rebate was processed, but I expect the canon rebate escalation folks will come through and I won't have to actually go through the additional hassle of sending the manual. Would love a scan of the cover just in case if anyone could be so kind... By the way, the number for the REAL Canon customer service (not the rebate call center) is 1-800-828-4040 Last edited by harmonist34; 01-18-2011 at 07:35 PM.. |

!!!!!!!
I talked to a supposedly a "supervisor" Michelle Henry, and she looked up my rebate submission and told me that it was a sticker (still sticky on the back) that was received!!!! I have photocopy proof that i sent the cardboard box along with the UPC. Someone (Canon or ACB) is meddling with our rebates and actually peeled them off of the cardboard box and accusing us for sending only the peeled part. There is something illegal here and they are attempting to get away with the rebates. I almost want to hire a lawyer with the $400 and send some PI and find out what they are doing over there !!!!! |

I see my status on the rebate lookup site is now "Audit Completed", without having sent anything else. |

To everyone who has been affected, please send an email to customerfeedback@cits.canon.com with your feedback on things.
Please do give credit to Canon escalation if they resolved the problem for you (Whitney, the rep who helped me, was especially pleasant and effective), but let's collectively ensure Canon knows that this sequence of events should never have occurred and ACB or whomever at Canon was responsible for what appears to have been a calculated attempt to defraud consumers is held accountable. |

Here is my story. Called couple of times last week and compalined WTF is wrong with original submission. Was told UPC was peeled and not cut out. They told me to submit first page of camera and printer manual (seriously who keeps paper manuals these days) and write the serial numbers and rebate reference number on top of it.
Today I physically received the letter from Canon saying that UPC was peeled and not cut from box. Called them up again today and the guy immediately started apologizing for the incorrect letter that was sent out and now rebate is good and blah blah blah. Now I immiediately see that my online status as audit completed. For last month it was showing program violation. Somebody is up in their a$$ about this. Keep on calling SD'ers until they realize that they just cant mess around with the system. |

I got the same letter but I know I cut out the cardboard. I even just checked my photocopied versions of the UPC and it's pretty clear it was sent with cardboard (you can see fringy cardboard looking stuff hanging off the UPC. This is a total scam.
However, I did look up my rebate status online and it says "Audit Completed" so I think they approved the rebate even without me giving them a call. I'm going to call them tomorrow just to be sure, but I think we are good. Thankfully, I only check my mail once a week or I would have wasted my time on the phone with these guys. But looks like enough people bombarded them already that its been cleared up for everyone. Thanks! |
