HELP! Canon Pixma $400 rebate rejected for "peeling"

harmonist34 166 January 16, 2011 at 06:40 AM
Just got a rebate rejection letter yesterday. They claim the UPC was "peeled rather than cut" for the printer. I remember using a carpet knife to remove it, but I don't think I cut all the way through the box. I'll call first thing Monday and begin the process of fighting. Anybody have any tips?

If it doesn't go smoothly, I'm trying to figure out what actions I can reasonably take. Here's what I've come up with - any other suggestions?

1. Canon customer care
2. Amazon customer care
3. Credit card dispute
4. Secretary of State complaints in applicable states
5. BBB
6. Complaint websites
7. Social media
8. Canon executive phone/email
9. Mail fraud complaint
10. ?

Any help from you experienced folks would be greatly appreciated!

$400 give or take.

Basically a free printer with the purchase of a qualifying dslr.

Hi all,

Sorry for the noob question, but how long do i have to wait to do this rebate again? I checked my email on the abcpromtions canon email lookup site and it said the last time i did this rebate was in 2010. Do you think I can do rebate again for 2012?

Thanks
Leo

You do not have to wait nearly so long. As long as the offer number is different you are good to go.

The rebate form is usually linked from the product page of the select online retailers that qualify for the rebate and sell the camera and printer.

For example Canon PIXMA Pro9000 Mark II Inkjet Photo Printer at :

amazon.com [amazon.com]

or

buydig.com [buydig.com]

etc.

I did purchase t4i and the printer from B&H Photo. Submitted everything the very next day. Upon checking the rebate status it shows today for the first time with the dreaded "Program Violation" annotation. Will be calling tomorrow AM to check what's happening: I did double and triple checked my submission and all necessary docs were included, including big cut outs from both boxes. Will update with information as soon as I know more.

UPDATE: Supposedly, I forgot to send the actual UPC code from the box. It's the third, lowest bar code on the outside of the box. The top two (where, among others, the body's S/N is embedded) are not enough. Will have to wait for the 'Rebate Rejection Letter" and re-send the missing UPC code for the rebate to be re-processed.

UPDATE#2: After re-sending the missing UPC code, they re-processed the rebate and the status changed to "Audit Completed" on 9/27

UPDATE#3: Received rebate card on 10/22.

Quick question

I have recently bought a T3 camera, but did not bundle the printer.

If I went online and bought the "bought" another camera, and printer. Printed the order "receipt", then canceled the Camera. Then when I received the pinter, cut out the UPC from the Printer, and the Camera I already have, I would be able to get the rebate.

I guess what I am really asking is... Does the rebate company have access to your sales history? Will they be able to check with Amazon, or whoever to see if you really bought the items.
wow, you are asking on a public forum if you can cheat on rebates? you know they can prosecute you with your state laws...

What do you mean by "supposedly"? The rebate does not require any bar code of your choosing, it requires the UPC bar code. If you did not submit the UPC bar code there is no supposedly about it.

You're right... I did drop a ball on this one; should have sent all three just to be certain but it's true that it's the last UPC that should have been sent and I did not send it. I still hope they will re-process the rebate once I send them the missing code.

UPDATE: Just received the letter from Canon about missing UPC code. I am sending the code today and hope that they won't make any fuss about re-processing the claim.

I see people on CL selling Canons with peeled instead of cut UPC. I guess they will be out $400 because they did not read or understand the instructions or they will have to track down the buyer and hope that the buyer will co-operate with the manual pages.

Hi all, I have to send the canon $400 printer rebate, but the mistake is I didn't cut the UPC, I have just peeled it from printer. And the printer was sold on ebay. I have only until 01/31 to send the rebate. So what are my options.
Option 1: Send what I got, peeled UPC from printer and cut barcode from camera. If they ask, try to tell that I have sent full, bla bla...
Option 2: Cut some brown card board and attach the peeled UPC label with crazy glue. Send and take chances?

Did any of you used any of the above and got approved or denied finally? Please suggest me, dont want to loose $400 now.

Any suggestions, really appreciated. Please respond asap.

Thanks!!

Approved right away this time around on the $400 rebate. Now to wait for the actual Amex card. Just curious, where do most of you use the Amex rebate card for purchases?
