After Tragedy, Ariz. Lawmakers Eye More Gun Rights They understand what the anti-gunners never will, and that is that gun control only disarms the law abiding. AZ appears to be in the extreme minority when it comes to true sensible gun laws. A lot of the same people that are for overly restrictive gun control are also for drug prohibition and we see how well that's worked. What does everyone think, has drug prohibition made us safer ? Can gun control truly make us safer ? Or will gun control simply make us more vulnerable ? http://www.fox5vegas.com/news/265...etail.html excerpts:

Excellent that they're still pushing forward with the campus carry. Its supposed to get another chance in Georgia this year, and if Arizona successfully gets it passed, they're only paving the road for everyone else.

Introducing guns on campus just encourages students to fear and distrust other students (or else why would they need guns), which is pretty stupid and defeats the whole point of residential college in the first place. The difference becomes that if someone wants to commit a crime, instead of having to buy a gun traceable to themselves, all they need to do is grab one from another dorm room. Makes it about a thousand times easier for crazies to have access to a gun. |

Second, while I haven't seen the text of the bills, I'd be very surprised if the proposed laws force colleges to allow students to have them in their dorms while living on campus, given the fact that it's very difficult to keep them secure. Third, there are legitimate reasons for guns on campus that have nothing to do with "not trusting" other students. Here's one for example. http://www.forgottenvictims.com/L...istall.htm |

no to hijack the thread, but if universities are full of drunk/drugged out kids by your account, is there a single compelling reason why employers should hire them? I'd kind of laugh at Obama and you in a room together calling for businesses to hire college kids. The truth: Management at IRS can blame themselves and how they have chaotic and poor management, but God-forbid you, or I, or anybody else in America gets audited and doesn't have their ducks in order and s***-together, your ass is going to court or jail.
Shout out to Congressman Mike Kelly for stating it as it is... Link [realclearpolitics.com] |

when I was in college, the people who generally took strong opinions in class were douches. Though, I was over in the colleges that helped you get degrees that could get you jobs, not things like liberals arts or fairytale science. (also, ftr, I supposed we do need the COLA's, but I would not want to be graduating with one in this economic climate. On the bright side, I hear starbucks is hiring. I could use my degree to have an intellectual conversation with the customers in there.) Anyway, back to the point. CCW permit holders are safer and more law abiding citizens. |

Another thing, what's laughable is that you're argument and the rest of the anti-campus CCW crowd is based 100% on pure emotion. The crazies that have shot up campuses would have done so with or without gun laws on the books. There is zero evidence CCW permit holders will pose more of a thread on campus. Also, you describe a fashion in which people can get their hands on unsecured firearms which is against one of the first tenants of being a good CCW holder (that you always keep your firearm in a secure place.) |
