How to get channel 63.4 on TV.

Wek 491 38 January 18, 2011 at 07:19 PM
Does anyone know what kind of a device I need to watch channel 63.4 (WMBC-TV) in NYC? My mother wants to watch that channel but I'm not sure how to get it. We currently have TWC and get channel 63 but it's not channel 63.4 with a different programming.

Thanks.

If you have an HD TV you can connect an antenna to it, scan for channels and tune to 63 "-" 4.

I dont have an HD TV. All we have is TWC and a Digital to Analog TV Converter Box (Tivax). Forgot to mention a pair of cheap very small rabbit ears.

Connect the rabbit ears to the converter box, aim them and see if you can pick up 63-4.

If it works, you can get dollar store A/B switch to go between cable and antenna.

Unless the TV has a digital tuner, and since it isn't an HDTV, I doubt it, your cable box isn't gonna get it either. So, the short answer is "you don't."

I think the channel you want is an over the air channel. So tune to the D to A box (You should not be using it with the TW stuff anyways) and run a scan. You may need a better antenna to get the channel.

If you are getting 63 there is no possible way to NOT get 63.4 if you are getting the signal from an antenna. Do a scan again with the converter box, it's there somewhere. If no luck make sure the converter box doesn't have 63.4 blocked, put all box settings on default and start another scan.

One day over dinner our parents said, "Due to the economy, we are going to have to let one of you go."

My belief as an American, is that if I have to start understanding the metric system, then the terrorists have won.

If you have TWC and live in the NYC area that should be included on your basic channels through your cable box. It may not be on channel 63 or whatever through your cable box, but look through your onscreen guide for it.

Checked the broadcast lineup in NY (zip 10001) - there is no 63.4 ... explains why you're not getting it.

From WMBC's website: WMBC-DT 63-4: Not currently broadcasting. OP should be getting it on their cable box anyway.

As an aside, HDTVs aren't the only TVs to get digital channels. As far back as 2006, SD TVs were being sold with ATSC tuners in them. Only TVs older than 5 or so years old really need the D/A TV boxes.

It's usually a good plan to re-scan every few months. If a new channel shows up, you won't get it unitl you re-scan. In my area I also have to hold up my antenna in a funny position to see all of the channels at once. Once they show up on the first scan, I may need to wiggle a bit but at least they are all saved.

note. the actual signal is broadcast on channel 18. channel 63 is a "virtual" channel, a holdover from analog television. that station was unable to switch back to channel 63 after digital transition because that spectrum (channels 52+) was taken away from tv broadcasters... has a poor signal throughout much of nyc area, so try repositioning antenna and rescanning channels if you can't pick it up.

When you buy more, you save more. And when you save more, you can buy more.
And when you buy more, you save more. It all starts when you BUY MORE.
