I need a new rewards card
I've been using a Citi Driver's Edge Card which has been VERY good to me. Unfortunately I got a notice that they are discontinuing the program. What's the best deal out there for rewards? I'm looking for cash or gift card rebates, not airline miles. No annual fee is a must, I don't care about the interest rate as I put as much on the card as possible and then just pay it off. |

I like discover although you have the issue of not being accepted everywhere. You get 1% on all purchases and rotating categories of 5%. But the nice thing is you get discounts on the gift cards so if you get like $20 in cash back, you can get a $25 giftcard. That gives you another 25% bonus on the cash you have.
I also have an AMEX costco which is 1% on all purchases, 2% on restaurants, 3% on gas but there is the costco membership fee. Chase Freedom card also has rotating categories but I use this one the least (only when AMEX/DIS is not accepted or a category is at 5%). No annual fee and if you happen to have a chase checking account you get points as well which can be used for cards/items as well. So typically categories decide which card to use to maximize the 5%, otherwise I will default to AMEX and Discover and use the Chase visa if those 2 aren't accepted. Hope this helps. |

Thanks,
I have a Discover and the AMEX Costco card as well. I think I'll just start using both of them more. I really liked the card I had. MC is accepted everywhere and my rewards plan was really excellent. I'm going to miss it as I earned a lot from CITI every year. Based on the new regulations I'm sure other rewards programs are going to be changing. |

As a previous poster said (paraphrasing here) - check out any cards that change points per quarter. For instance, one quarter might be 3% on groceries, the next quarter for gas. And yep, the Costo AMEX card is good also. I had a Citi card, but they wanted to charge me $60/year - dumped that one. Well, that narrowed it down - not. Good luck on whatever card you end up getting!

I have a Freedom card but I know in the past they capped my annual cash out to only $400. I normally exceed that by quite a bit. Do they not cap anymore? Hmm, I'll have to check.
The Chase Saphire looks interesting as they have a good bonus for signing up. $100 for the Saphire, $250 for the Saphire Preferred ($85 fee after the first year) Maybe I can barter with them as I've never paid a fee on any credit card (usually call and cancel and they waive the fee to get you to stay). If they are unwilling to do it than switch to the normal Saphire. So bottom line what I've found to be the best available right now is: Chase - Saphire 1 point per dollar Chase - Freedom 1 point per dollar plus quarterly perks for changing categories Amex - which I already have (not accepted everywhere) 1 - 3% depending on category. Great for gas stattions and restaurants. Last edited by Katman; 01-28-2011 at 09:16 AM.. Reason: more info |
