Hi does anyone know if I can order a cord on Monoprice that will charge the PS3 remote, and if I can use this while I am playing. I am going to purchase a PS3 this weekend and want to get what I can first?

a ps3 comes with a cable.

but yes, you can plug it in and still have the controller work. you just need to turn the controller on first and then plug it in.

Any standard USB cable that have an USB Mini 5pin can be use to charge your PS3 wireless controller. You find those cables in your local dollar stores.

As stated above, PS3 controllers use a standard kind of USB cable, and can play and charge when connected via USB. You might want a USB extension cord to lengthen the included cable if you plan to play wired.

Another option is a USB hub, I've never tried a USB hub on a PS3, but it should work to extend wired range, too. You probably need a powered hub to charge.

It is not at all necessary to turn it on before you plug it in.

It is if you're not plugging it in to the PS3.

If I plug my controller into my computer, it won't turn on when I hit the PS button. I have to disconnect it, turn it on, then plug it back in. Same happens if it goes to sleep while connected.

Pretty much love mini-usb for it's wide availability. I have never needed to carry my phone charger anymore since every household I have been to has a mini USB cable for SOMETHING. Big Grin

laugh out loud I have micro usb too. But like I said..mini-usb is still more ubiquitous because it has been around a helluva lot longer. My last three phones have all used mini USB. And there is either a camera, ps3 controller or some other useless device that uses mini usb in their household. I only use micro right now on one WD drive, my Kindle, Nook, and most recently (like yesterday), Apple TV laugh out loud I'm more surprised they didn't try to shove a dock connector on that thing LMAO Also a Palm Pre, but that is touchstoned, so rarely need one for that Big Grin

And btw...I've been upgrade eligible since October of '09..I've been out of contract since then, and got the HTC Hero deal late last year and am running 2.3 Gingerbread on it now, so yeah...cutting edge tech is definitely part of my life. Just waiting what Sprint will launch on Feb. 7th to see if I should get something more amazing now or later.

Palm Pre = crap battery... I want to go back to a blackberry but I am dumb and sold mine off for $100 when I got my Pre... now I have a year left to wait for my new damn phone unless I convince my pops (since I'm on the family plan) to let me use one of his two Sprint premier upgrades and extend his contract another year lol.... damn $10/month extra surcharge on 3G phones
