Got one of these for my family and hooked it up with TomatoUSB (easy!!!), a 640 GB I picked up for 30 dollars on clearance (thanks SD!), and installed transmission torrent client. Runs solid as a rock.
If you don't need Draft N or Gigabit ports, get this. If you do, grab the RT-N16 when it goes on sale (costs about 70 dollars on sale).
I have my main router in a bedroom, because that's the only place I have an open cable outlet to hook up my modem. I want to buy this router and install an opensource firmware on it so that i can put it in my family room and connect it to the HTPC, XBox, and potentially a BluRay player in the future.
Which firmware would be the way to go on this?
also, if I set it up like this, would I still be able to take advantage of the printershare capabilities of the USB ports? I have a USB laser printer that I would like to hook up to this.
I got this one last time it was on sale and with coupon and rebate, costed me $15.xx altogether.
This is a great router, I am completely novice on updating the firmware, but with help of other sites (I think was http://www.dd-wrt.com), first updated with Mega firmware, FTP was not working for me, and also has a limitation of specific formatted HDD, looked for another firmware and came across the Tomato USB, which is fine and supports FAT and NTFS formatted drives.
If anyone has any experience, I am still not able to get it to access thru FTP, I have enabled FTP and put a shared drive as \Media\Movies, but doesn't let me login to ftp with the uid/pwd i have assigned.
HP LJ3050 Printer works just fine and worked on all 3 firmwares
