Up to 30,000 AAdvantage Miles for Current Card Holders with new Citi Checking Account Opening
Hey guys,
Citi employee here just passing on some information on a new promo that started this weekend.
It's not targeted, but you do have to have a Citi credit card OR citi mortgage. You also can't already have a checking account. Here's the basic breakdown:
Open a Basic Account ($0 minimum balance, 5 transactions per month to waive monthly charge of $8.50):
Open a Citibank Account ($6000 minimum balance to waive $20 fee, OR direct deposit if you work for pretty much any major company through Citi's Bank-at-work program)
Open a Citigold Account ($50000 minimum balance, OR over $250,000 in mortgages/loans)
Now, personally I think the Citibank account is a great value for people who are active in the AAdvantage program. For all those SDers who just signed up for the 75K bonus miles card, here's your chance to get that up to 100K without much more work. Now, chances are, if you're SDers, you're already banking somewhere you aren't getting fees, but the Bank-at-work program citi offers is actually pretty legit. If you work for any major corporation (and there are thousands on the B@W list), set up direct deposit and the account is free, no questions asked.
Important: Within 60 days, you also have to either:
a) Set up direct deposit
b) Conduct 2 bill payments online
If you plan to keep the account, do option A. if you plan to just get the promo and leave, do option B.
This promo runs through the end of March (3/31/11). We've had similar promos before, but not recently with the 25K+ miles offer. If you're in the AAdvantage program, I don't have to tell you that 25K miles is worth WAY more than $125 or even 25K ThankYou points.
Not really trying to sell it. Yes I work at Citi and I do believe we have good products, but this is definitely a slick deal if you have the ability to get in on it.
I'm preempting a few questions here:
Can you access this online? Not as far as I know. I believe it's only for accounts opened in branch.
How long does the money have to stay in there? Promo states 90 days for crediting the rewards, but you don't have to leave anything in the account. You will be charged, however, if you don't do the transactions for Basic, or minimum balance for Citibank, or DD for the Citibank/B@W program.
Here's some more math:
Open a Citibank account, get the 25K miles, and leave only enough in it to cover the monthly service charge for 4 months. It shouldn't possibly take longer than 4 months from start to finish. That's $80 for 25,000 miles.
Just a recommendation: Call your nearest branch, ask to speak to a personal banker, and ask them if your company qualifies for their Bank at Work program. If it does, this is a no-brainer.
I'll happily assist in any way I can. Hope this helps someone!
