They do something, just not what those "scientists" were testing. If you read carefully, it is referring to improved athletic performance. It did not focus on breathing while sleeping, especially for those with nasal issues.

FWIW, they CAN really help. Sometimes they have a very noticeable impact on how I breathe, sometimes not. So it seems it may depend on the situation.

I had a septoplasty (with an added turbinate reduction) and now I breathe much better at night without the aid of anything. Occasionally my passageways still get restricted for some reason and I'll use a strip for old times sake.

P.S. The regular ones are pretty weak, if those are the ones you tried. The Advanced strips are by far and away the best in my opinion. The Extra strips (the bigger ones with 3 bands) are too hardcore for me. The Advanced strips appear to provide about the same amount of nasal relief without feeling like I'm ripping my skin off when I take them off in the morning. Definitely give those a try if you haven't already.
