Looking for a wireless router recommendation.
I've had the same wireless router for the past 5+ years and it's worked out great when I only had a few wireless devices connected to it. Now I'm thinking I might benefit from a better/newer one because I've added some other devices to it recently and I seem to be suffering a performance hit because of it.I have: A laptop (Wireless G, no idea if it supports 5ghz or not) A Roku device (Wireless N but doesn't support 5ghz) Another Cisco WRT54G wireless router (used as a bridge on demand) A Wii (I don't know what wireless standards it can support) An iPad (pretty sure it supports 802.11n, but not sure if it can go 5ghz or not) The Roku, Wii, and iPad are all in remote bedrooms and they are the devices that I've added that now seem to be slowing down the whole mix. I'm thinking I'll go ahead and reposition my wireless router so that they get a better signal, but while I'm at it I'll probably get approval to buy another router as well (something that supports 802.11n and has dual band is what I'm thinking.) So long story short, would I be best to just buy a Cisco dual band router for this purpose? If so, which would you recommend? And if not, what are some of the best dual band Wireless N routers out there? I'm rather out of touch with the latest offerings that the different manufacturers have. TIA! Only the iPad supports 5GHz so a dual-band router won't benefit you very much.
You can run two 2.4GHz networks on different channels. You could get an inexpensive single band 802.11n router and connect your N devices to that and leave your current 802.11g router running for the G devices. |

Great catch there! However, one of the problems I'll probably face with that is that setup it seems that a lot of my neighbors all leave their routers at the default channel 6, so I'd have to configure the two different routers as channels 1 and 11-13 respectively, is that right? What would be your pick for a decent 802.11n router? |
